Gabe himself has posted at HL2fallout with some very interesting information.
Quick update:

- ATI/CZ users will get turned on later tonight for the CS: Source test

- An update will be out today as well. This is largish (~60 MB).

- The size of the update is due to the Video Stress Test it includes. You'll be able to do some initial performance analysis using this test and report the data back to a central server. The results of the VST will be posted on Steampowered.com.

- HL/2 pre-load will begin tomorrow. It was ready yesterday, but we decided to use the bandwidth to get out the VST first since I get pelted with zillions of questions from people asking how their PC will run Half-Life 2.
Thanks to SaL and thehunter1320 for bringing this to my attention.

no problem!

So, does this mean the CS beta is going to preload or is it actually available to play for ATI/CZ users?

CS:S Beta already preloaded for ATI/CZ users, its unlocking today.

lol so true actually.

The problem is valve know how to make a nice and addicting game but when it comes to publishing, make a proper online service, and security - they're bad at it doing it. Very bad.

Wish they would at least get the valve forums up. Its 6:13eastern time. I will give up hope for the night if they dont activate it by 9pm. That was the time the preload began in NY anyways.

I dont know if i've understood this correctly... I never even read specificly about it but.. does hl2 preload for everyone ? or just for those who have an ati serial number already .. ?

so.....when can i start playing cs: source.......

hey valve, how about in addition to telling us the day we will be able to play, how bout an approximate hour? cause my hair is starting to fall out.

Compared to who? No one else out there in the gaming industry has done this before.
