The preloading of Half-Life 2 will start in less than 8 hours. In fact it's at 7:00 PST (PST=GMT-8) so we've got a little bit more to wait. Its purpose is to save some bandwith for the time when the game goes gold (one week or two) as it will download just textures and audio. Just install Steam if you haven't done it already and create an account. Over the Steampowered Forums people are getting more and more anxious to start preloading, but some try to stay positive (Postalgeist - "Maybe Valve is busy playing the secret Duke Nukem Forever beta?"). Well dude, if they had the secret Duke Nukem Forever beta, no firewall in the world could save them :)

Its only a random speculation, if it was true the whole internet would be spammed with the news by now and people all excited.

It's from yesterday

that's gamershell - not gamespot. Any site which says video games are better than sex, is not to be trusted.

They mean 7:00 AM today, the article was posted at 8:00 PM (20:04) yesterday, so if this is true, only 45 more minutes... hopefully...

ohh...well, that'd be cool if it was true. Would Valve preload stuff at 7 in the morning though?

Maybe to not overload Steam?

how should we read it?

The way it is clearly meant to be read, of course.

The article was posted yesterday morning and it said that the preload would begin less than eight hour from the time of post, more specifically at 7:00 PST yesterday. The author of the article clarified, for the benefit of British readers, that Pacific Standard Time is Greenwich Mean Time -8.

Wrong again and again, how do you manage it? The timestamp reflects 8pm, but the article has been on the site since yesterday morning. The latest headline has a timestamp of 5pm. Is it 5pm where you live? It's not? Oh, okay.

And in the unlikely event you were right, it wouldn't change the fact that the article said preload was to begin at 7:00 PST on August 23rd.

Glad we cleared that up.

no offense, but why are you guys bothering with this? This is obviously a story from yesterday. And gamershell inst exactly the most solid source for info. ;)

I was all giddy, including release date remark, till i read that it was posted yesterday. Felt a familiar thud as my heart came loose and fell on my other organs.

I know why Gabe goes to Hl2fallout... people there dont have an opinion... they are all HL2 fanboys who dont like asking questions that would trip up Valve... HL2.net, I commend you.
