half life 2 preloading

OMG i cant believe it... half life 2 is already preloading for me but secretly. wen i check monitor it says no games r being updated. and half life 2 isnt on the games thing either but in the steam apps folder have 4 GCF files called Half-Life 2 1.gcf, Half-Life 2 2.gcf, Half-Life 2 3.gcf, Half-Life 2 4.gcf. Its preloading Half-Life 2 1.gcf right now i know becuase each time i refresh the folder the kb is higher on that file. its 48 mb done right now.

i guess its not starting for everyone at the same time becuase game servers will lag if everyone in the server is downloading since u cant cancell the preloading

1) GCF names are lower-case (half-life engine.gcf, condition zero.gcf, etc.)
2) Steam allocates all space on the disk for the GCF immediately, so you do not see the KB increasing as it downloads.
3) There are more than four videos from E3 2004 which are coming.

hmm.. i think its a bit early for HL2 pre-loading just because i also happen to think HL2 will be released in some time August.. possibly even early September.

of course i don't know any more than anyone else here so the game could just as easily be available early July.. but i dunno.. new info on the game hasn't started trickling out yet.. so when that happens.. it will be a clue as to when the game will be out and pre-loading will begin.

HL2 won't be preloading. It won't be available for preload until after it's gone gold, which it patently hasn't done.
