Valve has confirmed that they have sent a release candidate of Half-Life 2 to Vivendi Universal Games. If VUG approves this candidate the game will be declared gold and sent off for duplication.

Or to put it another way, barring any glaring showstopper bugs, Half-Life 2 is getting very close to release. :)

For 72 hours, VUG QA will test the RC for serious problems. If nothing serious is found within those 72 hours, the game will be sent to replication and could be sent to stores two weeks later. If, however, serious problems become evident, Valve will have to fix them and make sure they cause no new problems, and then send a new RC to VUG QA for AOK. TLA.

Unless, of course, my own experiences with VUG are drastically different from the special coddling treatment Valve are enjoying. Ah-hehm.

I forgot to add that the AVERAGE amount of RCs for a game is four. Some games have fewer, some have more, but to have the very first RC accepted is very, very rare.

72 hours. umm,, awsome :)

lol will this shut the skeptic's up?

Let's hope it's real soon. VAlve seems to think they are bug free. let's hope so.

:naughty: Killer, only 72 hours... but to balance it out "it's very rare to get the first RC accepted."

Come on....we can't have everyone be excited ;) there will be complaints a plenty. lol

But for me we are in the home stretch and the only thing which could push it to novemeber is VU and $$$.

o.o 2 weeks? no way!

it has to be a hoax!

*cannot accept that they can get hl2 produced and in stores worldwide in less then 20 days*

The amount of RC's for a game depends on how much internal bug testing is done by the developer before the first RC is submitted. Since there are so many games that are submitted in a buggy state just to get them out sooner, it's no surprise that the average number of RCs is four. HL2 went through a pretty thorough bug testing phase so I would be surprised if the first RC isn't accepted.

Speculation time kids!

72 hours (from Wednesday) + 2 weeks = 1st October

Seeing most games are released early in the week, I guess the absolute earliest is the first week of October (at least, judging from this).

VU will be wanting to bust this out on the shelves, ASAP, so if the first RC is good, then sept 30th, early October is looking nice :)

New releases are only aloud to be shelved on Friday's in the UK, so if it's a world wide release, how they gonna sort that out?

edit: October 1st is a friday:)

But even with bugs...add a week or two at most. Still we are approaching the finish line. Can't possibly seeing Valve missing a bug that would take a month + to fix at this stage with as much testing they do.

*fingers crossed*

lol I remember those 2 admins when I was a member at the Tribes 2 a few years back. Brings back memories. Hmmm, 72 hours....if all goes well, there will probably be gold on monday.

He is a nobody... ;P
Check link on page 1 ;P

To those wondering about two weeks to get the game out being not enough time:

I'm pretty sure I remember an e-mail describing the worldwide release meaning to release half-life 2 on steam, so two weeks is very likely for getting boxes in stores within the US and Steam everywhere else. ^_^

Check valve only thread, some e-mails in there about this.

I hope it's late Sept/Early Oct. It would be really nice and due to school i'd actually have time to play without worry on weekends. *cough*valve*cough*'

:D

im pretty sure the first rc will go through. i dont know how strict the testing for HL1 was, and it made it through first try. valve has been testing for bugs for months. with their history of being perfectionists i make the prediction: gold on monday.

VUG confirmed nothing. The mods at VUG forums don't know more as we do, Creole Ned was simply refering to the fact that Gabe Newell posted confirmation at HL2 Fallout forum.
