If i say that is a 48hour process whould you belive me?

I can also say the process will take 304 years, or 34 hours etc.

get my point?

In less than 48Hours we will know the final release date.

Fuking Awsome

I'm confused, the moderator is no part of VUG as far as i can see, and piotrr seems to just be some random member who has had dealings with VUG in the past.

No they [the mods] don't, piotrr is not a mod over there. But he developed a game that was published by Vivendi (Ground Control), so he knows how release candidates are generally handled by VUG.

Don't count on the first RC making it through.

Didn't the first RC for HL make it? I don't see why you'd say this then, other than sheer pessimism.

Actually, I think unless they have a showstopper(ie; crash), the first RC will be used as gold.

Pessimism can be a good thing though. Getting your hopes up and being let down is worse than predicting the worst posible outcome and being genuinely suprised.

My friend is a internal game-tester for THQ.

He tested titles such as Full Spectrum Warrior and Scooby Doo for GameBoy (lol, poor guy) RC's for a couple of months some times.

Right now, he's working crazy 18 hour shifts to rush some game out the door. He said they have shifts working around the clock to get their game done...

So Vivendi having people work around the clock for 72 hours for a high profile game is possible. Considering the amount of beta testing Valve did themselves, the RC should be accepted.

I hope we get a gold announcement by Monday.

Do you think they would work during a weekend?

Yes, especially when this game could get them 50 million dollars of sale. That means, VUG = not poor anymore.

Who the hell is piotrr?

He could be one of those people who seem to know what they are on about but are just talking rubbish.

What we actually know:

* Half-Life's final RC took 48 hours before it was declared Gold, the game went off on Thursday and Sierra said that it was fine on the Saturday. This implies that they work Saturdays.

* Gabe said that games usually go through a "Couple" of RCs. This could mean that 2 usually fail and the third one passes but it could mean that 1 fails and the 2nd passes.

Speculation time kids!

72 hours (from Wednesday) + 2 weeks = 1st October

Seeing most games are released early in the week, I guess the absolute earliest is the first week of October (at least, judging from this).

good guess :)
but i am gonna use ur guessing here and add another week to it :p
second week of October.. Tuesday October 12th.. that is if VU decides not to hold onto it any amount of time after its gone gold :)

hehehehe :)

Pessimists are either right as usual or pleasantly surprised
:)

Damn you for the most misleading thread title ever! I thought it ment that Vivendi has tested the release candidate and it's ready to go gold

Always the optimist, eh IamaElephant?

I'm not an optimist or a pessimist. I'm a realist. And there's no capital letters in my name.

ok so in short hl2 is going gold in 72 hours correct ? if no problems come up or anything ?

Figuring all of the testing that Valve's said they've done, i'd hope that this goes through. Of course, since it has such high expectations, i could see them asking for another RC if they find some sort of bad bug. I guess that we'll just have to wait and see...c'mon GOLD!! :bounce:

They said any serious bugs, but since valve has been play testing and working on this game for so long I HOPE the first is accepted, i wonder if Doom 3's first RC was accepted too.

Someone said that Carmack was quoted to have said that Doom 3 went through a number of RCs. I haven't seen the quote but hopefully someone will find it for us.

Not from VU but from a Novell who knows how the rc process really is. Its sounds correct and professional written, interesting read none the less... have a look.

He basically confirmed what I thought was tested. I don't see why it would be 6-7 days for Vivendi to test it.

Anyway, this is an exciting time, any time from now till the end of the month we could end up with a Gold announcement.

Yeah from memory Doom 3 went through quite a number of RCs, of course no one knew about any of them until the Gold announcement.

Hope VU doesn't want those Xmas dollars instead of the fast millions they'll make putting it out now. New to Forums with the help of Chris D.

UH OH butterflyes are in my stomach...OMG now their EATING MY STOMACH AHAHAHAGGGGg......... I hope that 72 hours is over soon...it should be very interesting from here on in.

Because of steam aren't problems easier to fix. Thus making it more likely that the 1st RC will be approved. There could be some kind of cataclysmic error but no one would ever know because Valve could fix it before people played it for the first time. Valve could also fix the RC while its in Vivendi's hands. They gotta connect to steam too right?
