Half-Life 2 Release Date is Very Short

CS:S= not worth wasting their time on.
Werd. I can easily wait a few months for CS:S as long as HL2 is out, and most of the community will be able to too, except for the 10 year old noobs who will scream 0MG! VAVL3 1S T3H L1ARZ!!!!11 TH3Y 5A1D CS W1LL BE W1TH HL2!!!!11 Please Valve, don't excessively delay HL2 because of these morons. And besides, the sooner HL2 comes out, the sooner the mod teams can do some serious testing.

Besides, if HL2 goes gold shortly (which it likely won't), it would start a nice little battle with Doom 3 on the shelves, and I think most of us know who would win that fight :D

But don't get your hopes up for an early release of HL2 on Steam, Valve doesn't want to make Vivendi lose too many sales of boxed copies of HL2. And if Valve does do an early release of HL2 on Steam, it wouldn't be for more than 24h before the game hits store shelves.

I'm still pinning my hopes on Tuesday Sept. 28th, that way I won't be dissapointed at a Sept. release, and could be pleasently surprised by an August release. Otherwise, we will see HL2 before the holiday season. Valve would have to be complete morons to pass up holiday sales (unless some uber bug comes up and forces a delay).

You crackheads. The CS:S beta is for testing out the Source engine before HL2 is released to manufacturing, not for 'delaying' HL2. Unless you call testing the engine 'delaying'.

The nerf-brain who wrote that post on warp2search.net is high on something. "this step is to reserve the bandwidth for HL2 (could be downloaded through Steam)" so you're trying to tell me Valve is moving everyone from WON to Steam so they can... free up more Steam bandwidth? Right. Maybe this news came from an alternate universe where Steam takes less bandwidth per player than WON auth.

Freeing up steam bandwidth is a valid excuse, it enables valve to get everybody installed patched and ready (don't forget many people will retain HL1 for other mods), rather than have everybody all trying to download/authenticate on the release date.

I think early september.

If you look at the release date of DOOM3... It takes a fairly long time to print all the CDs/DVDs and then distribute them.

Thats what today's robotics is for :p

I think it'd be cool for HL2 to be released in mid-august. I'd like to have some time to play HL2 before my school starts back...

Yeah, I am quite annoyed that I will most likely get to play the game when I have to go back to school. Talk about bad timeing! :x

Aww well, so long as I get it in the end....

Hmmmm... why Tuesday the 28th?

Cause it's close to a 30th september date, and it's also a tuesday.

I don't believe this is to release HL2 earlier, but it is related to HL2.

Gabe Newell himself said that the CCP and CS:CZ users were good targets for the beta. The CCP's will be able to check the new CCP applications for steam. and cs:cz will be active(that means many in numbers) And will also help stress the servers.

At the same time users are shifting from Won to Steam. So they'll be wanting to download maybe up to 3-4GB, if they also own CS:CZ.

It will be the perfect stress test. They would be able to very precisely point out when they would need to put Half-Life 2 online.

But i will doubt it means it gets preloaded in august, if it does, it'll be right in the end, literally moments after the gold announce. 21th or 28th seems probable to me.

Here's how I see it. I'll check to see if the Doom 3 multiplayer is good, a little after release. If it's not good, I won't buy it. If it is good, I might buy it if Half-Life 2 is going to be released in September, but I'd only buy 1 game in 1 month, and if I'd have to pick, Half-Life 2 hands down. :)

4 player doom multi doesn't seem to cut it for me, unless it's really stealthy and fun...
