Half Life 2 - September

Poor Doom 3, any other time it probably would have been the best game out for a few years, but now it's only going to get to be best FPS ever for a couple of months

I feel bad for iD, they invented the genre after all..

No offence, but neither do we know weather valve would re invent the genre with HL2. In fact, it really has BIG competition from D3.

i dont think you can even compare the two games, they´re so different..

in hl2 you have to figure things out, solve pretty difficult problems (i hope ) etc, youll have to use your brain alot..

doom3 is, what i know, more a game you play to.. well, instead of like seeing a horror-movie or something, if you know what i mean

i think both games are really good games, but i dont feel like putting them both in the same genre.. sure, theyre both FPS, but still pretty different in gameplay etc

So far Doom 3 has gotten the same average level of reviews as Far Cry dude. Let me show you

PC Gamer US = 96%
PC PowerPlay = 94%
PC Gamer Sweden = 90%
PC Zone Germany (or some german gaming mag along the lines of that name) = 93%

Essentially Doom 3 is turning out to be a very very good game. But so far its nothing ground-breaking. It's really a scarier, action packed version of System Shock 2 without the key factors that made System Shock 2 great.

I'm not sayings its gonna be crap, i'm saying that you see the game as the King of FPS, when the game is taking key elements from Half-Life (The way half-life told its story through scripted events and what not)

And dude, Valve have said they've improved everything that made the original game great.

Also i'm looking forward to squaring off with a Strider more then a Hell Knight.

I have a feeling that Doom 3 is going to be a MUCH scarier version of Half-Life. Think about it. The story is virtually the same and iD were aiming on making an immersive, action-packed experience, which is exactly what Half-Life was.

Doom 3 is going to be awesome. But HL2 is going to offer more gameplay wise

Yes, and it's not like that was just Doug's bad call, he probably didn't do it without the rest of Valve knowing about it, so Valve as a whole screwed up here. But forget September 30th ffs, it's almost a year ago now, get on with your lives!

im thinking someone did a typo in a memo, accidentaly putting '2003' instead of '2004' then they realised they had made the mistake, and went back to their original release date - sept 30th 2004 (which funnily enough is probably what its gonna be anyway).

To be completely honest, there are way to many of these types of thread around about release dates. The game will be done when its done, in the meantime, do something productive. Make a HL2 preview for the fun of it. Make some fan art in Adobe Photoshop. Discuss it here on HL2Net. Talk about it with your real-life friends, AND online friends. Make a silly website on geocities saying how great HL2 will be. Just find something productive to do.

While, yes, I'm majorly excited about HL2, I'm not rushing VALVe to finish the game. If we rush them, it will mean that we won't have as great of a game.

Look at all the systems they benchmarked.
Let the [H] come to Valve studios and benchmark the game 1 week before it comes out.

I love this idea, everyone read the article and look at the benchmarks.

No betting on the Doom 3/Half-life 2 steelcage match for me, I will buy and enjoy both.
