IGN says it was posted on the site and then removed, and Gamers-Depot had a screen capture for a bit (which has now also been removed)

It was fake, if you saw the image, the URL wasn't www.half-life2.com, it was something different

it wasn't posted on the official half-life 2 website, it was posted on some domain that had a local copy of the half-life 2 news page and they created a fictious gold announcement.

I'm adopting the policy of disregarding absolutely everything I hear about possible release dates, release candidates etc. There is simply too much wild speculation going around.

When HL2 is released people whith steam will suddenly be able to unlock thier preload and there'll be about 10,000 messages on this forum. Then I know the wait is finally over.

I dont see any reason for it not to come out before the end of October. I HIGHLY doubt its going to be in RC stage for a whole month. Allthough VUG might be having a hissy fit and going "Nuh we dont want to bring out hl2! Go away!"
