Half Life 2 Stutters The Movie

format the hard disk, and install a new windows
i think it will not lag if you do that

I have it too. My specs:
*P4 3Ghz
*512mb @400
*Asus P4P800 deluxe (with onboard 7.1 sound, set to 2 speakers)
*2 IDE 8mb cache maxtors in RAID 1 (mirror) -> proves that it's not HDD related, this has massive transferrate increase on read access.
*Saphire 9800pro 128mb

Nothing is o/c'ed, there is no virus, no spyware (firefox :)), I tryed the tweaks suggested, it didn't help much. I don't have it as badly as the thread starter, but I do have a stutter on every single sound that gets loaded for the first time in a level.

Final note: I have winamp installed, and also the KLite mega codec pack with standard settings. Doom3 runs like a charm on this machine, Farcry too, but HL2 stutters. I would check for conflicts with popular third party sound software as a start.

Great game btw! I loved every minute of it.

The last time I had stuttering like that was because I had some advanced sound option enabled, I believe I just unticked the EAX box. Can't remember what game that was for though...

I had the same problem... I had turned up all the effects to MAX. I changed it to the recommended for my system ( medium ) and then all the stutters disappered, and my loading times went down from 1-2 min to 20-40 sec...

Heh, I have it like that but not that bad. Seriously dude I shouldn't laugh but that stuttering was hilarious

Well it's exactly that bad for me, so feel good knowing someone has it as bad as you

Was that actually a Valve dude that looked at my video? WOW... IM FAMOUS! ;) ... Thanx guys, i read the news that you are looking into it and i am happy that you are. Thank you!

UGH ... no im not going to do that, why on earth? Bad solution. That would take me a 3 days of making the system how i like it. I have a perfectly good rig with no spyware and no viruses tweaked to perfection for gaming. I have a minimum of applications installed and im not going to bother again (unless my system explodes) with tweaking windows.

Other games run fine, new games. I dont see why hl2 has to be any different. And the number of users that are experiencing this may be small, but we are many.

Glad you guys liked the video, and im glad someone got a laugh from it :)

maybe ur cd drive is damages? ... or the cd isn clean ... dunno seemd to me lik that..

btw.: im new here and this is my 1. post :)

Flawless performance.

AMD Athlon 64 FX-51

ATI Radeon 9800XT
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Plat.

Someone else mentioned the new nForce drivers helped him, and it says in the description that it fixed problems with games..
here's the link:nForce driver

To be honest I'd cut down on the old defragmenting, it can damage your HDD if you do it too often. Have you tried swapping Hard Drives out? The game might be having problems reading from your disk, do you experience anything like this in any other games?
defragging hdd's does NOT damage them. the heads do not touch the platters, so you cannot damage them.

Good work Ruben  , nice to know that Valve are looking in to the problem, and can now actually see what were all talking about!. Hopefully this will speed up the process and we can all play HL2 as it was meant to be played!. :cheese:
