Ok I know this is unofficial and most peolpe already know if their system can handle HL2, but on http://www.half-life2.org.uk/check.php you can find out what components should be upgraded or which are most likely fine to run the game.
I don't know from where the guys who wrote that page have their information, perhaps it's more or less made up, but what I saw so far makes sense.

this is the uhm...third post in a few hours about this...gees...do some searching beforehand

Not a good test, yeah. Nice that it tests for Windows 3.1 though :)

Oh, and if people only posted about things that haven't been talked about before, there'd be nothing to talk about. If you see what I mean.

Nostradamus: Show me one thread with this and I delete mine. I did "some searching", I looked for the url as keyword and went through all threads on the first page (40 or so) in general discussion.
When I'm wrong, excuse me and I'll delete at once...

Arrowhead: I know that is what I said, this "test" is just for the people who still have no idea about HL2 requirements.

i posted this theme in the "hardeware" forum, and another person posted it after me in the same forum, so your post is the 3.one.

ok for some reason the search showed no results when I looked "http://www.half-life2.org.uk/check.php" up (maybe because of the vB Code), and I only read the general discussion threads.
It seems that due to a new feature I can't edit or delete the thread anymore, every admin may feel free to do so.

Sorry bout that, on the other hand I don't think anyone felt seriously offended by my post. If yes, sue me...

dont apollogize for it... no reason to ;)

and yes i was very offended by the high amount of racistic content in you thread..grrr!!! ;)

Results
Processor: Your processor is fine.
Graphics Memory: You should be able to play in 1024x768 maybie more depending on the chipset, upgrading to better chipsets such as Radion 9800, and GeForce FX 5800 will provide better results.
System Memory: You have enough RAM
Operating System: You will be able to play on Win XP.
Architecture: No Problems

32meg DDR

Its what ive STILL got. Fkin quality card for its time.

The only way for a test like this to be worthwhile is if it could give you a target resolution or something. The fact that it bases your how good your video card is on how much memory it has is BS. I agree, this test blows!

There's nowhere near enough info out about HL2 systems to make a test like this worthwhile.

Now if Valve were to create on, that would be cool :afro:

...but shouldn't they be working on a game or something???

Its for those that don't know what they are doing. So people always talk about Windows 3.1.....what was in the first version of Windows??? lol

This test is as useful as a blind man telling you that 32bits graphics look better than 16bits...

Im kind of curious though, say I have a 9700 pro, that has 128 ddr memory. Does that mean I say 256?

Don't worry, with a graphic card like that the game will probably run as smooth as silk.

No,

Graphical memory is what your graphics card has.

The other is your ram.

I assume he means that his card is better than the rest of the 128MB generation cards (like a Ge 4200), so it's nominally equivalent to a 256 in power.

The first Windows was Windows (1.0)...you cant find a program with more bugs than that! :)

I heard that Valve were going to release a benchmarking program shortly before HL2 is released (when i saw this thread i thought they had released and i got all excited)

That test does give enough options. I had to say i was running win 98 when i was running ME and that i had 256 RAM when i actually have 384. Also they really don't have enough knowledge on the game to make predictions yet
