Sitting back and looking at this whole situation is just making me very very disgusted with Valve right now.. For one of many reasons that have been adding up for some time now. I have been following the whole Half Life 2 and delay after delay. It seems that all Valve to me is stalling for more time for some reason or another, if that is becuase it's not done or just becaue they want the excitement to come and just buy up all the copies when it does come out.

the other thing is they shouldn't be delaying it just because some one hacked there system and grabbed what they say 1/3 the code. 1/3 the code isn't nothing compared to the whole code. If you can't see someone over your network downloading like 500mb or something then they have problems in there network and need to do some more managing you know..

The second thing is that Valve and Steam have taken away the whole LAN effect with this new Steam update that makes you have internet connection all the time you know.. I run a dedicated Linux Box for that reason along with running a Intranet FTP and Web Server. I dont want my Linux Box to have Internet access but they are going to try and force me to.. Well I'm sorry to say I WILL NOT BE FORCED INTO ANYTHING.. If Valve wants to go this route they will lose many people in this whole process.. Look at Microsoft if you take a poll there are more people still using Win 98 then Win Xp and one of the main reason is that they don't have to activate there product with approval of the person that they bought the software from.. I dont want to pay for something then ask permission to play the darn thing.. I can not longer play the lasted and greatest mods over a Lan without everyone that I'm playing with having internet. Valve need to put a Separate Dedicated Server out there for LAN gaming only and listen to the Community that supports then and Buy's there software.

They need to release Half Life 2 to the public if its done and don't make excuses for some hacker and there poor system Administration.. I know they can't protect everything from everyone but hey its only part of the code and that doesn't matter they dont have the rest of it.. So why should we all have to suffer because they got a little bit of it.. But agian this is just my opinion...

You don't need a constant Steam connecton to play the game - if you buy the game retail, of the shelf. Steam, in that case, will only be used for patching and updates. I'm sure Valve will also provide End-User updates, so what's the dilemma?

According to the Radio show (if we can take ANYTHING they said credibly) Valve stated that they are still on schedule for a Holiday release. The story on the HL2.net mainpage most likely refers to the Expansion and/or Collectors Edition being pushed back to April 2004.

Valve has stated the game is just about finished being coded - they are in Beta Testing right now. It's very unlikely that the Beta Test will last for another 6 months.

Everything is cool.

I think they should take time to make the game better. I think you kids need to be less impatient.

Don't buy the game then :)

And your voting options are rather biased, so I wont be placing my vote.

im sitting like patience on a monument waiting for this game but april ? ffs

Im just a bit dissapointed, cause i was trusting the "Gabe statement", and then i realized that hl2 was delayed. And now im hearing stuff from Vivendi, that that the game is due like april 2004, and then i kust loose hope.... i know that Gabe stated that theres no big damage done... but now my trust acually lies on the high-ranked guys at vivendi, sorry....

Cant we hear some good news soon. ive been looking forward to this game for a very long time now, and its seems it just keep on sliding.

I cant belive everything im hearing, i know, but my will-power is running low..... i will go back to Bubble bobble, just to ease the dissapointment.

Vavle :D :D

They should release it when its finished.

OR - because mots people don't have a fast enough PC to run it.

i couldnt care less.

theres 3 games coming out sooner than HL2 that i want more than HL2.

Max Payne 2

Halo

Rome Total War.

but ffs the game was finished or is finish before this hack shit, now the game is delayed another 6months thx to the hackers ?

ffs!

Take more time to make it better?

They've spent the last five years developing it, far over the normal time taken to develop the average game. I don't see how they could make it especially 'better' by delaying the launch by a few months since the game is very ready as it is. Much of the game's potential will be down to the modding community which will mean it gets better as a game in the future as Half-Life did over the last 5 years.

I think 5 years is an adequate amount of time to make the game 'good'.

What i'll enjoy about HL2
-The story
-The music
-The dialog
-The gameplay
-The immersion

All those things would have been finished/decided quite awhile ago. If it wasn't for the source code leak they'd be gameplay testing and fixing the little bugs. Little bugs such as a texture is misaligned on the elevator in building X. Or players can walk through a wall at location xyz.

The point i'm trying to make is that the game wouldn't noticably improve if they continued to bug fix for the next 6 months.

That's just an assumption though. They said the game had been finished but were working on translating languages for something.

If it's delayed till April 2004 i will be beyond pissed off. Faith and goodwill towards a company only lasts so long. This coming from a person who followed the 'production' of Duke Nukem Forever...

APRIL!!!? :O

Looks like HL2 will be bundled with the 9900xt now instead of the 9800xt :D I'll still buy HL2 regardless.

lol if you want those more than hl2 you have some interesting tastes.

a singleplayer only game, a 2 year old, shoddily ported xbox game, and a strategy game.:dozey:

Of, first off, they don't NEED to do anything regardless of how important your mommy told you you are. Secondly, if certain parts of the code were compromised, they do indeed have to hold off on the gold until they can patch it. Valve will most likely still release before Chirstmas because it's not financially feasible to release it any later really. There's no "direct" competitor with them (DOOM 3 isn't coming as far as I know) but a lot of other good games are (a good year for games).

So in my opinion, yes, Valve will come out with their game before Christmas, but they sure as hell don't owe the community anything.

hMMM

Actually if you have the CD that you bought retail no steam still requires a Steam Connection to the internet. So at that point Yes you still do need a Internet connection because I have tried It and found that it doesn't work.. I have tried running steam without internet connect and then my dial up connection comes up and starts to dial my internet service providers...

pffft my life doesnt revolve around video games. I can wait as long as it would take to rewrite some of the code so that the leak would be "non-damaging" to the game (cheats/exploits). Its too vital of a problem can cannot be overlooked. Its one thing to make cheats with the ability to mod etc, its quite another to have the source to work with. If anyone intends on being to play online or mods, you might want to reconsider your vote. I would rather play a game that is cheater free later (for the most part) than hacked to death now. I say rewrite some of the code and release it whenever you can. Im not in that big of a hurry.

No amount of code re-writes will stop the cheats and exploits. Even if the code had never been leaked there'd still be a plethora of them released within no time at all...

It's a realistic but unfortunate view of the situation.

They can take all the time they want as far as I'm concerned. I can keep myself pretty much entertained with other things int he meantime, so it's no biggy. I just want a successful release and a safe, fair multiplayer.

Thats true mrfusion, however thats why I said "for the most part" cheat free. Having the source, they can do ANYTHING they want. That is the scary part. The hl aimbots and wallhacks are nothing compared to what they would be able to do. (god mode anyone) I rest my case.

UPDATE - I stand corrected. CNN has confirmed, via Vivendi that the game is delayed to April 2004

http://money.cnn.com/2003/10/07/technology/vivendi_code.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes

Well, who's up for a game of when will they delay the game again?

3 days before April 2004's date?

4 days?

maybe 6 to keep with tradition!

I'm starting to hear DN music...

I disagree with you on this one, I think they are foaming at the mouth at this point :afro:

F^ck that !

I say release the SP now and we wait for the MP later !

And why the F U C K do they need 4 (four) more months !!!!!!!!!!!!

It just seems that VALVe is as professional as a dead fly: press, delay, leak, more delay, maybe some more leak, etc. Pfff...

At least people still talk about the damn game... They've got free publicity at least, but they do look pretty dumb right now...

Had the leak not occured, is there anyone here who thinks that they would have released the game on the 30th?
No? Didn't think so...

rofl and your post looks intelligent? I would rather play a game that isnt hacked to death over one that is.

Yeah, but I'm not making millions with my post dumb****...

HL2 was first announced in April this year. Release date was finally set at 30 September. Since then Valve has announced ONE (1) delay, it is delayed until "holiday season". That's it.

Maybe you are tired of the HL2.net forum delay threads?
