Today while browsing my Counter Strike Source folder and the hl2 folder i came across something intersting... i Found 4 files in C:\Program Files\css\hl2\resource that may relate to running or playing a multiplayer game of Hl2. they were called "CreateMultiplayerGameServerPage.res" "CreateMultiplayerGameGameplayPage.res" "MultiplayerAdvancedDialog" and "MultiplayerCustomizeDialog". Those files seem to be related to a HL2 multiplayer. Im not complety positive on this one but what do you guys think? I also found 3 files located C:\Program Files\css\hl2\resource\UI and say "MOTD" "CLASSMENU" and SCOREBOARD".

Who knows. Valve very well may release a DM component just for fun. But they have repeatedly stated, "No DM component is in production at this time." so unless they're just being smart about it meaning, "It's not in production anymore, it's done." it pretty much means there wont be.

Plus the reviewers that have played the final version of the game have marked it down for not having an HL2 multiplayer component other than CS. We'd probably see more 98-100% reviews if there was.

Just playing devil's advocate. ;)

Hate to rain on your parade but in the latest interview Doug Lombardi did on HomeLAN he made this statement:

"HomeLAN - Will there be basic Half-Life 2 deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes released by Valve at some point or will the mod community have to create those products?

Doug Lombardi - Right now, we do not have DM or CtF modes for HL2 in production."

I'm pretty sure HL2DM is a mod team project all the way.

I bet there was one... then they cut it out...

Perhaps they're just being smartasses though and no longer have it in production since it's done? I mean, you aren't making something if it's already finished...

Figured I'd toss some doubt in there, I personally don't believe Valve will drop any sort of bomb on us with a DM mode or anything. But I've been proven wrong before... :)

Maybe you can set up multiplayer through HL2 in its MP menu, and then it starts up CS:Source...

mabey its not capture the flag or DM mabey its something else...

said it before but imo they have a non ctf or dm mode in production. there has still been loopholes in the info from valve for this possibility, we know that no CTF or DM modes are in production. but stuff from the info from valve thread like ted backmans corpse, and half life 2's multiplayer maps being much larger, dosent make sense in the context of CS:S and DOD:S. surely the maps are still counted as the same size?
valve are too switched on to avoid all of the possibilities of a pure hl2 multiplayer

the original HLDM felt a little tacked on even if the weapons were balanced and allowed intreesting tactics. TFC felt like valve's true hl multiplayer attempt (and that wasnt released untill well after hl came out - maybe the same tactic with hl2MP?)

hl2 / TF:2 gonna revolutionise fps anyways :

I'm not sure about this, but wasn't teamfortress made by some mod team originally for quake and it was just ported to the half life engine and called team fortress classic? so it wasn't valve's multiplayer

Exactly my thought as well

Wow. Just... wow. Some people need to learn to let go. Seriously, don't get your hopes up.

Maybe its a little surprise :) we will just have to wait and see

I never played HL DM so if there are HL2 DM I wont play that either, gimme TF2 and I'm satisfied!

you could play 'dm' in the leak so if you can do it in the leak, it can't be THAT hard to implement in the full game

Erm, those files are there b/c the file that starts CS:S is hl2.exe. Ever done screens with Fraps from CS:S? Every screen begins with hl2.exe...

The components are in the resource folders b/c they are needed to start HL2 multiplayer. And HL2 MP is...yes! Counter Strike: Source.

Don't get your hopes up, the mod community will take care of a good mp for HL2

In Firingsquads latest cs:s benchmark article, they write the following:

"With Half-Life 2 still a couple of weeks away from making its retail debut, many gamers are already enjoying one of the multiplayer components of HL2, Counter-Strike: Source."

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/counter-strike_source_2/

Typo or not?

Probably typo...

Edit: Bolded for emphsis... the point is the phrase, not the benches

Im so glad this is in the rumor section or i would flame ya ^_^.

Look, they can't be "working' on HL2's multiplayer or "got it done yesterday"(HL2 themped mutliplayer). Why? The retail version is being put on cd's this instant. After it went gold it was being put onto cd's for shipping.

Though I wouldn't be suprised is a few months after it was released, Valve would release some cool multiplayer. Then again, the community will have it done by then.

So really, the community will make the multiplayer thus HL2 has the best multiplayer cuz the community is making it MUAHAHAHAHHAHH,

wow just wow people still hoping for a hl2 theme multiplayer. I thought this had been settled long ago.

p.s ill be back to flame some more on the 16th

Dont think that there will be separete mp they did say it about 182 times duhhh. .

<?>..::ButcheR::

I think i remember seeing somewhere (on a russian HL2 website that shall not be named)

When i wos looking thru the site for Gabe Interveiw vid, i saw a Menu (it looked authentic, not photo shopped) because i hadnt seen the backround that wos on it

And it deffenatly Said 'New Game' Load Gabe 'Options Etc etc ...then it said Multiplayer..

Anyway i better hush my mouth b4 i get done by mods , sorry

My guess is that once you press that multiplayer button, Counter-strike Source pops up. No biggie.

uhm.. what about the multiplayer suprise that gabe or who ever was talkin about? It might be me just refusing to give up hl2dm, but i dont quite se the suprising element in cs source since it was released before hl2..

well.. i remember reading somewhere that hl2's mp is a secret... and CS:S was already known then..

On accident, I had the Norton personal firewall on while I was going into Counter-Strike: Source yesterday. A message popped up asking me if I wanted to allow hl2.exe to access the internet - which seems to imply that all of these games are run from that file.

Shame really... i was looking forward to throw radiators at your head online...

I don't know anymore.. I found an interesting screenshot on OCAU forums;

http://img20.exs.cx/img20/8867/hl11.jpg

That screenshot says they are playing "Half Life 2" not CS: Source and it says the map is "d2_coast_01" is that deathmatch? and there's 3 people in there?

You can actually play the leaked version online, but I doubt that that would show up in the Steam list...

But you didn't hear that from me...

//edit//
It was buggy though, to the extent that after the first time you died you respawned in the ground and got stuck. The player models were gray HL1 Gordon models that had no animation, and whatever gun you held stuck out of your crotch and had no firing animation. Doubtful this is the actual precursor to HL2DM.

In the HL1 SDK, there was a basic interface called CGameRules that all mods derived from, to implement their own set of rules for the game.

You have to remember that the Source engine supports things like MOTDs and things for people who are going to be modding it.

if hl2.exe is the exe for CS:S then it must contain some mp code. If they use the same exe for HL2 (like in HL1, same exe different game stuff) then that means hl2 contains some multiplayer stuff.

It can do HDR too but it isn't gonna be in HL2

Source is MP capable, doesn't mean its gonna be in HL2

The Dark Elf I like your signature :D I'm a Finn and that's funny but also pretty true... every word :D

He means that HL2.exe is required to run CS:S. The network code is contained within HL2 itself, but that doesn't mean it has a MP built into it. It does mean that it is there for all mods to access (including the very first mod, CS:S).

I think that Valve is really pushing that there will be no native MP because they are counting on the Mod community to create it for them. Why not? They won't have to spend money on developing it. I am dissapointed that HL:S will not contain its native MP, especially since Valve states right in the game description: "all original Half-Life content remastered for the Source engine". HL MP is part of the original content since it was built into the original game. That just seems like false advertising to me. Someone else will build it anyway, but it's just annoying that we'll have to wait a long time for it.

man, when are these hl2 themed mp believers going to give up.
