The British Academy of Film and Television has held its second annual BAFTA games awards this evening in London. BBC News Online is now reporting that Half-Life 2 has won six awards including best game and best online game.
The title, developed by Valve, was released last year to universal acclaim - receiving special praise for its immersive plot and physics engine.[br]The game also won Baftas for best action adventure, best PC game, art direction and animation.
Of course other titles won a myriad of awards too including Halo 2 that won best Xbox game and Hitman: Contracts with the best music award.[br]For more information on the BAFTA Games awards click here and see the original article at BBC News here.[br]Thanks goes to Atari for letting me know about this news so quickly.

I don't think it will make 50 to beat HL1 but it's bloody high considering all the great competition this time around.

I am very surprised it won best Online game. Sure its good but its definitaly not the strong point of HL2.

Considering the runners up to Best Online, I can clearly see why it won.

hmmm After seeing the runners up I have to agree. I thought for sure they would have World of Warcraft or something like that as being nominated.

When was WoW released in Europe? 2004 or 2005?

best online game, wtf? Is that for HL2DM or CS:S? Well the nominees list just says "Half-Life 2" which suggests to DM me... which is bullshit IMO. But yeah, the list is even more bullshit... haven't there been any dedicated online games released this year or something?

2004 sucked a fair bit for online gaming. Nothing immediately strikes me as fantastic.

Bare in mind as well that WoW probably isn't on there because if I recall that wasn't released until 2005 over here in sunny ol' England.

I think VALVE all deserve a round of applause! Congratulation on the greatest game ever created, and we remain so for a long, long time!

*cheers!

yeah, WoW would have stormed online catagory. My uncle got a UK beta account but never told me about it. he 'forgot'. GGRRRAAARRGG!!! whay cant I play that game?!?!

WoW came out in Europe in Feb, so it wasn't there to win the online award.

UT2004? I haven't a clue why it isn't on the list...

IT was released a couple of weeks ago in Europe.

Well done Half-Life 2! Nice to see gaming getting some recognition from the movie industry, as the line is bluring etc. Great stuff. :)

Say what?? UT2004 dominated my gaming for half of the year!

I think the judges had played Pandora Tomorrow for like 5 minutes and said "whoa, this is great! add it to the list!", but then they figured out that they suck at it, so they refused to let it win.
And I doubt they even played UT2004 at all. Maybe they took a look at the main menu and decided that it was just not cool enough, and the background music was annoying.
HL2 DM was something that was whipped up shortly after the release of HL2, and it is evident in many ways. CS:S doesn't deserve any price because it's really just a nicer looking version of a seven year old game.
(yes, I know this reply is kinda late)
