HALF-LIFE 2 With Solfware Upgrade?

Will HALF-LIFE 2 come with a PC upgrade that you will be able to install so that you'll be able to play it?

What do you mean exactly?

It won't come with any hardware upgrades. The only thing it will probably come with to allow you to play it will be direct X9.
 
I mean will the game come with a patch that will upgrade your PC to HALF-LIFE 2's requirments?
 
The only thing you will need if you have the required hardware running is the right Operating System which is basically any windows operating system and the most up to date version of direct X which Half Life 2 will come with.
 
Make sure you download a bigger hard disk first!

I assume you mean the exact opposite?
Halflife2 will downgrade itself so that it'll run nominal on your system.

software can't upgrade your hardware, thats what moneys for :cool:
 
I've read it will download some patches (high resolution textures, for example) if you have good hardware. :)

Well, you just need to make sure you have the hardware that is required..i'd say at least a 2 ghz with a directx9 vidcard, en 512 ddr ram.
 
I think he formulated it wrong... I think he wanted to say:
"I mean will the game come with a patch that will upgrade Half Life² to your System's specs?".
In other words, content that has been made for download for newer hardware for example higher resolution models textures shaders etc.

The answer to this is yes, but not right away. Because there won’t be any hardware requiring any higher resolution models, higher resolution textures, etc. then what will be in the final version which will be the most up to date one I think.
 
lol, it would be nice though. A patch that upgrades your computer.... It'd probably be a HUGE download though...

If you can make DNF go gold in the next 6 months, i'll make you that patch to upgrade you're hardware.

I am not sure if HL2 will downgrade itself as I only have a 2.4G CPU and 9700 non-pro.

I want to see HL2 in it highest detail.
 
Im sick of people moaning at developers cause there computers cant keep up, PC's are not consoles, you dont buy one and expect a steady flow of the same level of game for a few years, if u cant afford to upgrade once a year (or at least 2 years) then you are in the wrong type of gaming.

Heavens, yes.
 
the installation will probably pick up on the performance requirements. and set the graphics up accordingly, if you want to blast it to its highest details, read the benchmarks and what it works best with, and go get a beastly upgrade! if you can, you still have time :)
 
Anyone with a 2ghz,256mb ddr, radeon 9600/9700/9800 or equilivant should have no problem running HL2 on high detail. Howether people using GF2 like cards should be able to run it aswell but with quality alot lower i.e. lower texture res. Ofcourse all mappers know the R-Speeds conundrem so the map construction will be a major factor.
 
is their really a sure fired way to check if hl2 will run on my comp at this time?

He MENT Will it include such things as DX 9.0b, video drivers, etc.

at least, thats my take on it. he DID say software, not hardware. And i'm always surprised how many people use those words interchangably anyway.
