«In 2003, no game caused more of a stir that Valve's Half-Life 2. Even personally, no game struck me more last year than the sequel to my favorite PC game of all time. Half-Life 2 is probably still a few months away from release, and yet, I have no doubt that I will absolutely love the game. I'm completely confident. Why? Because Valve's E3 presentation was completely amazing and totally fulfilling. And I'm thankful that I was able to watch it over, and over, and over again.

I was obsessed by the power of Valve's footage. I was amazed at the furvor that one demonstration was able to create. And personally, I was honored to be able to help deliver it to the game's many, many fans. I know I've watched those twenty-five minutes of footage more than a hundred times since I shot it that day. And I have no doubt that there are gamers out there who have seen it many more times than that. And even when the source was leaked, the game was delayed, and all was looking dreadful, all I had to do was watch that video and remember that I hadn't been amazed by game the way I had been by that trailer in all my days as a gamer...»

Was he the geek that yelled 'my spreadsheet ran so well!' ?
Well, it was rather funny, in a strange geeky sort of way.

But I agree with him completely!

Now there's someone I agree with.
Me too, I would have to agree that Hl2's e3 video impressed me the most, when I saw that thing for the first time, i nearly peed my pants

Meh. 'aven't seen it.

'aven't been able to download it.

56k connection.

just do it, even with a 56k it's worth it.

Lets calculate :D
56 K gives you in the best case scenario 7 KB/s.
The video is 631.731.857 Bytes on my hdd, that's 616925,6 KB. Downloading that at 7 KB/s takes 24,48 hours :D

try this link
It's a 10x compressed version. 60 megs
Aproximately 2 hours of d\l
Worst res an definition but atleast you can see the not-Bink parts (buggy and Striders)

I was totally amazing by it. I nearly fainted. I watched it again and again, and I've seen the BINK Videos at least 30 times each.

There there Footh, it's not good to be to obsessive, you know? Isn't 30 times a bit over the top?

What!? No, I most certainly didn't watch Barricade 40 times! The very thought is absurd! Silly, silly, silly! I would never do such a thing.
*FuSeD runs of to watch Barricade for the 41st time*

I think I'll set that 60 meg version to download overnight sometime. I have a four hour connection limit, and it tells me that the download is going to take 3 1/2 to 4 hours, so I'd better not interrupt it...

Hehe, I watched the 600mb video again 2 days ago. I think I might watch it at night in the complete darkness soon.

What are the bink videos, are they the higher quality ones that were on Steam before the Beta ended??

Yeah the high quality ones of the E3 and Tunnels

Oops double post, forums are REALLY SLOW to load today.

Yeah I was blown away like never before by that video. To quote my brother after he had seen the E3 vid:

"Movies ain't worth shit now when there are this kind of games.."

Yeah I felt mildly ashamed that I got it...
At least he didn't tell it in binary. That would've been REALLY geeky.
But then I wouldn't have got it. And wouldn't have felt so geeky. Meh.

anyone know where you can get the bink videos nowadays... is there some hidden steam directory or something cause i havent been able to find then since i got a new computer.

The only bink video I watched was the benchmark.. course I saw the 600 meg one to.. But hmm, the lighting in the benchmark was extremely impressive... But really, overall doom III does have the better lighting IMO. Even tho I know I'll play hl2 and it's mods, and more games with source, than I ever will with any engine from ID.

Fiddle, you creature of blasphemy! DL all the movies, it's worth it I tells ya!

I always just love the tech demo bits with the materials. The realism of how the objected responded was mesmeric to watch.

Yeah that was truely amazing to watch, one of the few times in my gaming days that actually looked photorealistic. Haven't seen any of the other big 2004 shooters having such nice shaders, HL2 wipes the floor with them in this area.
