well it seems like gamespots review is coming up this sunday since halo 's review came sunday and its being released to tuesday , same with hl2 . predictions people?

somthing tells me no one else will be getting review copies early, remember the steam activation.. i think its all universal.

If gamespot give hl2 anything under 9.4, i wonder if this place is gonna turn out like bungie's forums. Anyone that went there yesterday knows what i'm talking about.

Edit: I predict a 9.6

Can i quote you Kage? :D

If you must. :p In all honesty I don't really care what Gamespot gives it, I'd rather judge it for myself...in a week...ooooh boy, 7 days. :D

Gamespot always have the best reviews , they might be a bit strict , but they say the truth

I dunno why everyone is waiting for those online reviews. Like Lobster said, we are going to get the game the same time as they are, and the review won't be up for a few days after that. During that time we will have got our own conclusions of the game. But, I guess it's cool in seeing praise lavished upon HL2 in various online reviews. Plus, there is the always awesome factor of people coming in here saying "OGgmm!! GAmeerwebsite.org Justa sa1d HL2z Is t3h SUCk!1!! We MuTS Spam T3h BOARDS11!!!"

You can pretty much guarantee that all of the major internet reviewers have had their review copies for several weeks now. Steam can definitely unlock HL2 on people's systems on case by case basis for those that are authorized to use it already.

I do remember hearing, though, that no online reviewers could post their reviews until the retail date for the game. That's just my recollection of the situation...

<<Gamespot fanboi

I'll say 9.4 just to tie Halo 2.

However, gamespot has stated that when they review a game and give it a score, that score is a comparison based on similar games on the same system. So say HL2 gets a 9.5, that doesn't necessary mean they think it's better...

My impression from the gamespot review of halo 2: more of the same.

I think what turned me off about Halo was the repetetive level design.

I think PA said it best:

gamespot have been fairly critical of valve/hl2 haven't they?

i suspect 9.3

gamepot will hate the fact that thte only multiplayer is a port

I'm guessing 9.4 or 9.5 max

I suggest the mods prep themselves in case GameSpot or IGN give Half-Life 2 less than Halo 2. Both sides will come and flame without mercy. :|

/me shrugs. I'm assuming they'll give it in the mid nines.

I'm more interested in the behind the scenes article Gamespot is doing on friday. It's supposed to be like the one they did on HL1.

I thought the final hours came on sunday?
Gamespot: "written Geoff Keighley, who is also the author of the upcoming GameSpot feature "The Final Hours of Half-Life 2," which debuts next Friday."

Score for the original Half-Life: 9.4

Geoff Keighley did also say that it was one of his favorite games.

I predict a 9.6 for me.

Graphics: 9 -> Effective radiosity lighting, geautiful water, visuals second only to DOOM 3

Sound: 10 -> Best voice acting of any recent game, things like muffled sounds in the distance add to immersiveness, great soundtrack

Gameplay: 10 -> Completely immersive experience, compelling story, responsive controls, excellent physics use, fun to play...

Value: 9 -> Single-player should not be missed, but the lack of proper multiplayer leaves more to be desired (for now).

Tilt: 10 -> The wait was worth it, surpasses the original, and becomes the new standard for FPS.

One more week to go! :bounce:

I pretty much agree, but I'd say that...
Graphics: 10
Sound: 9
Gameplay: 10
Value: 9 (or 10, if they like mods)
Tilt: 10

Wait... that's a really high score! Here's to hope!

Doom 3 vs HL2 was a far better comparison than Halo 2 vs HL 2 IMHO.

I agree with you on this one. 9.6 is fair I would think.

Seem's like a realistic score, when compared to what every other magazine has given it, as it surpasses the original is every way according to the majority of reviews that have came out for it

YAH!.......only 5 exams till HL2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn..... i have Calculus in 2 hours!!!!!!!! :(

Wow, I didn't expect many people to agree with me. But it does make sense when you factor in what the other reviewers have said.

It's too bad that spelling mistake was never fixed, as it sticks out like a sore thumb. :p

(geautiful)

They could give it a 0.1 for all I care, the game is going probably gonig to kick ass, and no review score could ever change that. I think it would be cool if they gave it 0.1 and said in the pros and cons section something like;

Pros - just about everything.
Cons - Makes all my other game look like crap.

That would make it one of the awesomest reviews I have ever seen.

Where halo 2 lacked in singleplayer...HL2 will lack in Multiplayer.

7 days............. ever seen the ring??

I'm going for higher than 9.6 or higher..I hope it's higher...but we would all like to see 10....right??

anyway, since when is the half-life series supposed to be based around multiplayer.

the only reason HL had DM is because it takes no effort at all to make a DM with the Quake engine, as it is one of the best for that. they probably just took Q2DM, slapped on HL's textures and weapons and "physics", and voila.

i'm pretty sure they tried doing a HL2DM somewhere along the line, but it was too fishy. because the Freeman character just isn't made for deathmatching. in my opinion at least.

no DM in HL2? Good. that just means they took more time to perfect the single player. it's not like we lack options for deathmatching anyways.

the purpose of half-life is not multi-player action. it's purpose is making science fiction movies obsolete :)

I read geautiful as "greatiful" er something...I thought you were just being creative lol...

But now i know ur just a dumbass canadian like me! HA! HA! AHAHA! HA!

But yea 9.6 is exactly what I predict..

A first person shooter on a PC, and a first person shooter on the console.

You're right, it's on a system to system basis.. but the FPS bar is higher on the PC that the console. If it scores higher than Halo 2, it's better... if it scores anywhere above a 9, it's better.
