So, the half life 2 ending sucked. we all agree. and we all agree that halflife 3 is on the way. I'm not saying hl2 was bad (which it wasn't. best fps i've ever played) but i just shelled out $60 for a sub par ending to a game. And now i'm told that hl3 is on the way to end the story. Well thats all fine and dandy, but is it going to cost me anoter $60... probly. And i see this comming. VALVe has us hooked. We all eagerly paid them $60, and we'll all eagerly give them another $60 for HL3. But if VALVe realizes this then what is keeping this from making a sub par GAME, not just a sub par ending. then another game for $60 and another game for $60 dollars. I'm not saying HL2 was a waste of money, but this series might be the start of financial issues for many...

First off, we all don't agree on your perspective of the ending.

Secondly, I don't really think that VALVe is going to make more games just so they can get more of our money. If they do go past HL3, then it might be because they wanted to surprise us. Who knows what they're going to do.

I thought they said Half-Life was going to be a trilogy and then they would move to a new theme.

the ending was just as good as the first one, exept with no difinitive boss batttle.

and it will only be a trilogy. half life is more than a franchise...

But HL2 took, what, 6 years? I don't think $60 every 3-4 years would be too bad. If HL3 turns out to be awful, then we don't have to buy it :)

actually, valves model seems to be genious. kinda crappy ending, leaves you wanting a lot more.....wait a second....ive seen this before put to the same use........LUCAS!!!!.....DAMN YOU LUCAS!!!!!!!

Who cares about SP anyway. You'll be getting 4-5 years of free amazing mods to play. That's worth more than $60.

no body seems to be taking into account the ending to HL2 is exactly the same as HL1... example.

HL1 Ending.

I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning. Rather an anti-climax after wot you just survived.
"time to choose Mr Freeman?" <- Cliff Hanger

HL2 Ending.
Ive recieved some offers that dictate they have to be considered. This is my stop <- Cliff Hanger

Yeah they are both cliff hangers.

I think what people are specifically dissapointed with is the lack of a lengthy ending. which there was in the original HL but remember it never explained anything all it stated was that Xen was in "Our" control for the time being. thats it.

The ending was another cliff hanger it sucks but its true its no diffrent from the first tho :)

There is a thing called an opinion, 'everyone' has one.

$60 for a game that gives us unlimited replayability with the MODs alone is worth it for me.
As far as the trilogy goes...I hope there will be at least a 4th if not a 5th game because, there is just too much story to tell to be fitted in one more game. 7 Hour War anyone?

....? Only like 5 % of the people who played hl2 didnt like the ending. Ending was great. Half-Life 3 is the last part.

sure the g-man part was cool and his lines and the cliff hanger. but come on.. a jumping puzzle, 2 gunships and target practice with your grav gun, what kind of ending is that. it needed a boss people, it needed a challenge.

yes youre right. the game really needed breen in a gigantic mech that takes 20 rockets to destroy. or better yet, some new giant creature that has nothing to do with the story what so ever. yes that would be much better.

lol I was thinking the same thing. I liked the ending, it was more of valve giving a middle-finger to all the cliché fps endings that think they need a big-badass creature to fight and kill before you win the game. :sniper:

wow 60 bucks..what an insane amount of money, i wish i could afford 60 dollars on a game, thats fanominal...im kinda interested on how you know how much money is worth what ending, hmm must be some kind of formula to it.

It wouldnt make any sense in the setting of the game to have some 60 foot giant monster running around that for some reason the 400 thousand combine soldiers that are in control of the planet didnt notice or didnt care to kill with there advanced tech. hl2s ending is just a piece of an ongoing story and ppl should probubly stop complaining cuase this is like the 900th thread that has had somthing to do with the ending being bad which is just your opinion.

Yea what is wrong with the ending? Sure it leaves you hanging but it leaves you wanting more. Now we have to be patient but the mods will hold us off. I just pray that Alyx comes back (in case you haven't figured she is my fav character). And I think they should put even more variety i.e. play as Alyx :)

They should stop at 3 and end it there. :)
I agree. Give the series some closure and move on before its played out.

Half-life will probably end up being a trilogy, which is good.

That way it keeps the plot simple, but if you want more you can play the expansion packs. Then it's practically a decalogy.

Ya see, i think that Valve will stop at HL3.. not necessarily because thats what i want.. but i dont think that they would want to lose the audience with a long drawn out story.. unless they just wanted the audience to speculate with an open mind to an open ending.. But it would be my guess that alot of truth will be told in Half-Life 3.. alot of OHHHs and AHHHHHss.. ya know.

Yeah, I thought the ending was brilliant. The game really is like starring in your own action-sci-fi movie.

I wouldn't be even a little bit surprised if HL3 does try to tie it all together but it will just be too much to cram into a a correctly sized game. So in the end they probably want to make HL3 the ending but I just don't think they can tell it all in one game. What we need are books.

a good way to get people to reply in your threads is to piss them off with the first thing you say.

It was a Blooming Spiffy ending it left me wanting more

However it answered some questions but yet opened up more like wtf did ALyx die nooooooooooooooo She's too fit to die :p

And aload of other stuf like what happened to eli n mossman and kliener and did lamar ever it all those birdies ?

Ending was fine,
Infact, the explosion/time warp was a nice effect to top it all off.
