Half-Life 3 - We're Already Playing It?

i'm really confused. so is it speculation that episodes are half life 3? or is it fact that there will be no full game titled half life 3? i really don't want episodes to be the final game in the series. that's just lame. and gabe's logic about it taking another 6 years to make half life 3 is way faulty. much of the time to make half life 2 was developing a whole new engine. and a few months extra because of the leak
