Honestly I do care about Half-Life 3 more than I do HL2 actually, I wanna know at least some kind of plot behind it, without ruining any of Half Life 2, which is practically impossible to do. Here my reasoning. Half Life just describes the beginning, its the basis of Gordo and how he got started Its the basis for any story, you need that.
Half Life 3 will be the end of a trilogy. I cant see making a Half Life 4 or anymore than that. Its just not right and it could get repetivie (i.e the old doom) HL3 will answer what actually will happen between Alyx and Gordon (steamy if anything) maybe we will get to actually hear Gordons voice, if it already hasnt been blown out by a bullet. lol, and more than likely find out who G-man is.
Half Life 2 will be nothing more than a pretty little blurr between story lines that may explain a little bit, but maybe not the whole thing.
I litteraly dont have a long life expectancy, try like 25 yrs old. 2012... More than likely Vavle will take there pretty sweet time with HL3.

Releasing HL3 within two or three years would be lunacy. Half-Life was released in 1999 and it STILL has an active community, and it's still being sold. Half-Life 2 will no doubt do the same. Releasing HL3 would simply ruin HL2's community and sales.

HL2 has taken so long becuase as soon as half life finished they began work on the source engine, which has taken up most of the 6 years of hl2's development.

And if you think that releasing hl3 in the next 2/3 years is lunacy well....that just about says it all...take a look at yourself.

All they would need to do is upgrade the source engine.

But on a serious note, i dont want to see hl3 in the next 5/6 years, i want to see it 3, like valve have said.

I really dont see how that will ruin the community or sales, 2/3 years of strong sales is a great achievement.

HL2 has a potential lifespan of five to seven years. When HL3 is released, HL2 is history.

But releaseing HL3 in 3 years would bring in more money (once 3 years hit). People will probably by HL2 before HL3 comes out (for those that didnt) and the legicy (sp) goes on and the sales go for another 3 years (assuming HL2 goes to plan). It may mean the death of HL2 but woudln't mean the community is going to die, just go to HL3.

You cant seem to understand the fact tht 3 years of STRONG sales is something great.

So your telling me that when hl2 is release counterstrike will be rendered obsolete along with half life online...

Not everyone will be able to play hl2 you know

And remember, they are stopping at 3, Half-Life is a trilogy.

Yeah I love that fact! It's nice to see that they won't completely whore out the series by pumping out sequel after sequel. Especially seeing as the turn the plot has taken is really quite fresh.
The Half-Life Trilogy has such a brilliant ring to it, it's not true.
