I did a quick search but don't recall seeing a dedicated HL3 speculation thread recently. I'd like to share this possibility which came to me in a flash of blinding inspiration the other night for the premise to HL3.

As we've learned from the well documented HL storyline and the basis of HL2, it seems that Gordon and the G-Man's ultimate nemesis are the Combine.

Destroying the Combine presence on Earth has left the Combine reeling, and on that basis, I think the 3rd part in the Half Life story will be set on the Combine's home planet. Here, Gordon will fight through waves of Combine enhanced aliens, possibly even some humans, to reach the ultimate goal - the Supreme Combine Advisor. In a final battle, Gordon will bring down the Combine advisor and cause the home planet to implode upon itself, destroying the Combine legacy forever.

I'm not sure at this stage whether Gordon will make it out alive, it would all depend on what the G-Man had planned for him.

Thanks for listening to my inane ramblings. :)

how, original  serious, I really hope Valve can do ALOT! better then that

i guess it depends on what happens in the expansions if there are any. If they finish off the combine in expansion packs then hl3 will have a new story, but if not, surely hl3 will be about gordon finishing off the combine.

I don't think that is what VALVe has in store for us...
I think it's not VALVe's style - if i''m right (and I think I am) they will always leave an open ending. There is no real reason for Half-Life to end on it's 3 chapter... and if you defeat the Combine that's what it'll be.

Plus - I don't think the Combine actually HAVE a home planet. It's a weak point for them - they probably have HQ on every planet they conquer.

Here's what I think the story will be - I think the Combine won't give up on earth so quickly. They will try to take it back - and your mission will be to stop them from doing that. You WILL have some sort of encounter with their master, but by all means that will not distroy their entire race.

Two key points that I think should be in HL3 -
1. The relationship between you and G-Man will become a lot more clear.
2. You will get back at the Combine with something like what they use - I think this will have something to do with bio-engineering humans with Xen aliens to creat a super-soldier. That's what they did, anyway...
Just thoughts, nothing is certain.

At the moment, i'm just waiting for an expantion-pack allowing you to view what happened from a different point of view like in HL1 (OP4S, BS)... Go VALVe.

I do think they have a homeplanet, its the one you see in the combine portal for breen, projected onto the sky

I'm thinking they have a home planet but they did something on it so the natural resources are depleting so they have to invade other planets and steal their resources.

Half life 3 i think is gonna be the final part of the story i think a 4th half life will spoil the franchise plus stretch the story on abit more than it needs. i think that half life 2 put the final stone in place for the last big bang. from half life/half life 2 were amazing games in terms of gameplay and story its full of suprises. i mean look at how many theory threads have been started all over the hl community the story is set to finish i believe next episode.

I think that the story is being told in a similiar way to the matrix/star wars saga's (

Episode one *the shit hits the fan*
Star wars ( the sith start being pricks)
Matrix ( ROBOTS RULE THE FUKIN WOLRD :O!!)
Half life (xen get abit gay when the portal opens)

episode two * ya meet the big bad*
Star wars(vader)
Matrix ( smith gets abit big headed )
Half life 2 ( breen and the combine)
episode three * the big ending the final fight call it what ya will*
Star wars ( rebels confronts the big bad in battle)
Matrix (neo confronts the big bad agent smith)
Half life 3 ( just have to wait)

I think that this is whats gonna happen in half life 3 just in its own way becuase of the story.

i know valve have done a great job with half life so far but its up to them they could make it a huge successes but they could royally fuk it up :S im expecting alot from valve now and i im hopping for a big band ending a huge battle . well ya know :p

:O

Btw im compiling a huge theory thread on half life 2 now im hoping to get it stikied its shaping up very well so bye for now

sounds plausible, though i don't think the HL3 ending will be this obvious...

I think it was said that Half-life 3 was gonna focuse more on alien based enemys than it was made in Half-Life 2, more like robot stuff, i just hope its true

I think it was said that Half-life 3 was gonna focuse more on alien based enemys than it was made in Half-Life 2, lesser like robot stuff-more zombies and aliens... i just hope its true

I hope it ends in a massive battle with lots of npc's fighting at once.

I'm still convinced HL3 will be the last in the series...and if it's the last, surely it has to end with a final battle against the evil that is the Combine.

Just as long as the series doesn't end with a classic "Space explosion while flying away in a ship" scene. I ****in' hate that.

who says Half Life 3 is a happy ending?

I'm getting tired of the happy endings in movies and stuff. Personally, I think it would be great to have a "defeated" ending for the human race in HL3. (same with the matrix revolutions)
