Half Life as game of the year

The Original HL won over 50 GOTY awards.
You think HL2 will beat it? I'm positive it will

Mmm not sure, think the reason HL won so many GOTYs was because it was so different from any other game. While HL2 look like to a fantastic game, I feel it won't get so many. HL2 also faces competition from games such as Far Cry.

HL2 will surely do things better than many games, but won't be as truly revolutionary as HL1 was. I doubt they'll get as many goty awards. Then again, any goty award that they don't get will surely go to a game that wouldn't have been made but for the precident set by the original HL. Such is the price of innovation.

The CRYTEK engine looks bad near the Source.
I played it, I shot some mercenarie in the face and he flew AT me..
in addition, it has more bugs that what i've seen of the source

they usually look at the whole package when judging GOTY awards, if the game has a decent ammount of Multiplayer support as well as its awsome singleplayer, and the product is nicely finished and polished then sure it could get alot of awards, farcry is competition but its MP support left alot to be desired, that and the system requirments.

But personaly, when the games released im not gonna give a toss either way :O

HL2 almost reminds me of Diablo 2. Diablo 2 was a great, addicting game, it wasn't as revolutionary as Diablo was. I think HL2 is going to be pegged the same way.

No way, the year HL came out, it was pretty much the only game worth buying, which gave it somewhat of an advantage. This year we're going to see Far Cry, Doom 3, Stalker, Rome Total War (I think it's this year?) among a few others. I have no doubts it will win numerous awards, but to beat HL is fairly ambitious.

I agree completely. Far Cry has nothing on HL2 IMO, in terms of graphics and expected game play (I've played Far Cry and didn't think it was brilliant.) I think HL2 will come close to beating HL, and am pretty confident that it will score higher in some reviews....hense the sig.

I think that HL2 will get less GOTY then HL1, simply b/c HL wos ahead of its time and that the competition now is alot stronger (although i feel HL2 beats most of the competition atm IMHO)
