Hi, I'm starting a new mod that is converting HL to the Source engine with updated graphics and maps.

We have a new plan for our approach to the way the team designs this mod. We will use a kind of approach that Valve used on Half-Life. We will divide the team up into small groups, and these groups will consist of 2-3 mappers, 1-2 modelers, and 1 coder. These groups will each work on a chapter, and when they finish they will start another chapter of the game. This will make it very efficient process, and not as time consuming because we could have the possibly of 3 chapters being worked on simultaneously.

This also means we will need more people on the team. We are in desperate need of Mappers, Modelers, and a few Coders. If you have any experience in these fields please e-mail me the following information. I will need your ModDB Screen Name, Months/Years of experience in the field you are applying for, any means of contact (AIM, MSN, etc.), and any extra notes you wish to enclose in the e-mail.

You can send this email to [email protected] and I will reply within 24-48 hours.

Our team is in desperate need of members! Please help out in any way possible.

Sincerely,
PcGamer3500

...are you different from Black Mesa: Source? And like, 100 other mods that are doing the same thing? Perhaps you should join one of those teams...

We are diffrent in one major way. We are not DIRECTLY porting source and making it look nice. We will make minor changes to gameplay to connect it to HL2 more.

For Example:
At the begginging where there are the 3 scientists in that room and 2 are working on the white board and one is on the computer.

We will change it so one is working on the white board, one is working on the computer, and one is watch or listening to the "Administartor" on a TV or Radio about budget or something.

We will also change character models a bit because due to the "Combine who a why theory" the Combine controlled Xen before Earth. So the aliens will have more of a combine controled look to them. Like more of a blacker shiner armor on the Alien Grunts and stuff like that. Nothing major but small changes that will really connect the 2 storylines.

You can download the official Half-Life: Black Mesa steam skin by going to our web site! Just download the file and extract it to your Steam/Skins directory. That’s it! Hope you enjoy the new skin.

Sincerely,

Hello, I'm the Co-Director with Black Mesa: Source, and I would just like to make a correction if I may. We at Black Mesa: Source are NOT directly porting over the original either and we are also underway in connecting the original Half-Life 1 storyline to the continuing events at City 17 and the Half-Life 2 storyline. We feel that incorporating the two storylines further, we will be able to create a continuity that is presently not as effective as it should be. Minor details such as scientist locations, numbers, etc will be the priority of the levels designers so we can create the most lively and believable situation and experience that we can. We bring to the original what it deserves: SOURCE. Through increased polycounts on models, weapons and higher resolution on textures and more architectual beauty that was not originally possible with the modified Quake engine of 1998.

Like they said, this is already being done. The Half-Life Source Overhaul team (this is a news post about them with links to the threads and whatnot) is already well along their way doing this.

A quote from the leader on what the project is doing:

"The plan is to remake HL1 completely from scratch, rebuilding and improving on everything. Xen will be completely biomechanical and the other locations will be familiar but they'll be made more realistic. It wont be a simple change textures and models - every single bit of it will be remade to the best of Source's abilities."

You guys should just join together, it's absolutely pointless for two teams to do the same thing, especially when it's something that took a professional development team years to make and will take you even longer.

HL: Black Mesa shall rule them all! Haha! Just kidding :)

I would be glad to join with another team but I dont know (From what I have heard on there plans) we dont see eye to eye. If they were to contact me I might consider it.

Just as a clarification, the 'Half-Life Source Overhaul Team' and 'Black Mesa: Source' are one in the same.
