I just formated and repalced my old clunky CD Drive with a DVD Drive. So I'm re-installing Half-Life - except it initiates the setup process then works for a few seconds then pops up with this error. I've tried the CD in another CD drive and it works fine in that one. Can anyone shed some light on what may be causing the setup process to fail? And if you're wondering why I don't just use Steam Half-life it sucks for Editing.

Here's the error:

STEAM STEAM STEAM STEAM!!!
sorry your cd is borked. you definitely won't be able to find an iso of that cd anywhere at all. so long as your key is legit, you can play it through steam

what do we mean by editing? like pulling models and such off the cd? well. try borrowing someone else's cd or pick up one of those cd cleaner things. you've prolly got a scratch on the cd that's covering something important.

or you could just install your cdrom as a secondary optical drive.

Yeah, its likely a scratch combined with an aging disk drive. Its one of those things you probably won't really be able to fix if cleaning the disk doesn't do it.

If it's scratched how come it works perfectly on the CD Drive I tried it on, but not my DVD Drive? :/

Dux, try copying the entire CD's contents to your HD and installing from that?

Some drives can actually read scratched disks better than others.

Yeah I've tried that, it didn't like the idea.

I guess that's it then.
