Is there anyone here who has beatin the whole game without using cheats at any moment. I only made it through about one 3rd of the game before i just said "I cant take it anymore im using cheats". An so I did and have beatin it many times but not once have I without cheats.

I have beaten it on hard with no cheats.

It's not too hard of a game. You just can't think linear.

Does that make sense to you? It didn't to me.

no i jus hav bad luck i mean how did u guys beat the last guy W/O cheats!?

[mad uber sk1llzzzzz mode]d00d I've beaten it like 291 times on hard with no cheats!!!!oneone11!~[/mad uber sk1llzzzzz mode]

no but seriously, I have beaten it at least 5 times on hard with no cheats. the most recent times, I tried to see how far I could go before getting hit by a baddie... and got half-way through the second level. =D It gets to a point where you know just about where every single guy is... which is sad, but true. =P something I look forward to in HL2. =D

Its not that hard, although some of the fights with the marines were tense.

Christ, I've beaten the game somewhere around 8-10 times without cheats on easy, medium and hard. It's actually a pretty easy game when you know where everything is and can exploit the AI to full effect. (Snipe 'em from corners and they won't see you even after you've shot them 10 times.. and when you kill them, their buddies still won't know you're there!)

Op4 was MUCH harder than Half-Life.... that Tunnel area with the Voltigore's was nasty :D

The first time? Lot and lots of reloading... and the lack of knowledge that you can shoot down those teleporters.. (Gives me health and ammo I would otherwise not bother getting.)

yea, the marines are always the ones that get me. everything else is easy enough to deal with, but those marines know their shit.

Ive never had any problem beating HL2, or any SP mods on hard, I think if you play multiplayer a bit you can learn skills very quickly that make SP seems laughibly easy.

You have got to be joking. I swear on my mother. My little brother beat the game on HARD when he was 10 YEARS OLD.

How in the world do you think Half-Life is hard? Im sry i dont believe you think that.

Let me add to that he beat it damn fast also. Believe it was a few days played 2 hours maybe. I take it he took a total of 6 hours.

He must really have Narcolepsy, and fell asleep on his keyboard, or had an internship with George W. Bush, thanks Kage, I wub you.

haha... thats great

I beat it twice on Easy about 2-3 years ago. This time I am playing it through on hard and I have to say its not that bad. I have become a much better player since 2-3 years ago and I am not having any issues. I forgot how good it was!!! The marine AI is still good, by today's standards if you ask me, when they nade first or run if their health is too low just to pop out when you get close and kill ya.

Yeah marines are tough - especially considerng the mp5 is in fact a shit weapon. You have to lay down fire for a good 5 seconsd to kill someone. Shotgun all the way baby!

Wow you guys must take alot of time with this. I was just kind of lazy, but I dont think ill use cheats in hl2 unless their is an impossible part im stuck on. Even then I might not use them. But I hope ill have cheats to use in hl2 or else i mite be done for

Do not use cheats. They make the game less fun. If cheats were intended to be used, they wouldn't be cheats.

It didn't seem that hard to me. Some firefights were intense, but nothing impossible. Not after the Doom 2 levels like Map 10 or Map 16. What got me were the jumping puzzles, I hated them, they were so annoying. First time playing, I got stuck now and then, but managed to get further after all...

Did cheat in Half-Life the first time I played it, but it wasn’t until I meet Nihilant.

After that… Well, I’ve beaten Half-Life like 15 times without cheats. :P

Easy solution to find hidden marines

1) Chuck about five grenades into random locations in the rooms (Prefably behind large crates) :D
2) Watch every dumb F*cker break cover and rally into one particular spot
3) Instant death by M16 grenade launcher anybody :E (or MP5 for no high definition pack :hmph: )

Anyway, you should be able to complete Half-Life on Easy and Medium, I haven't attempted it on hard yet though. But it also depends on the tactics you are using (and the keyboard layout you are using  )

I remember being absolutely aghast at how hard some of the parts of OpForce were, when I first played it oh-so-long-ago.. But somehow I beat it. And playing it again recently, on a harder difficulty, was so much easier. I got to sit around and enjoy the eye-candy.

How can you beat Nihilant w/o cheats. I couldnt get above his head to shoot the crystal thing fast enough so i had to noclip into the wall and then pop out from the ceiling so Id be above him.

Hardest level.

Pftf...never use cheats for games like these. Once you have played one FPS game, you have played them all...until HL2 that is.

BTW - Half Life is still my most favourite gaem. :dork:

The problem I reckon is how easy it is to cheat - developer 1 and sv_cheats 1. Then again for people developing mods etc, you need this. So not much you can do really. Just play the game the way it was designed to be played.

HL2 on hard was a cinch for me right up to the final teleportation sequence. I'm absolutely shit at taking out those flying things, and I have a deep-seated loathing for any 'protect the defenseless AI' missions. It's here I put the cheats on, and I keep them on for the rest of the game, given that I don't care for the Xen levels.

I tried taking on Nihilanth just last week, but when he started teleporting me every five seconds, I just couldn't be bothered. Is there some trick to stop him from doing that?

Opposing Force was usually more difficult, although it had some super-weapons that I thought were a little too powerful. Worst area would have been the tunnels with those giant aliens. Final boss was a piece of cake, though.

as most people, ive played it many times on hard without cheats. but what i absolutely love is when im randomly going through the game having fun, messing with marines and all of a sudden theyll actually do something incredibly smart and kill me quite easily. for instance, ill spray down a group of them, they take cover, i take cover to reload. as im reloading, i hear the distinctive sound of a grenade launcher and look up to see an impact grenade flying at my face. or them using hand grenades to flush me out of my cover and into a hail of bullets that nearly kill me. things like that when i replay impress me, because ive played newer games with dumber a.i.

It does still amaze me how halflife can be played so many times and still be enjoyable - I must have played it over 20 times. Has any other game ever managed this? I don't think so.

I never have, neither will I ever use cheats, be that SP or MP.

I found Hl to be an easy game... then again I dont remember the last game I played that I actually considered challenging :/

(I play all my games on their hardest difficulty setting to get the most out of the money I spent on it)

It depends really :). Doom2 is my by far most played FPS. I have not only completed it from the first till last level many times, I have also on countless occasions ran the game, loaded up a random map of the 30 and played through it. Heck, I completed Doom2 lots of times before HL was even out, and I still play the game sometimes, for maybe 20 minutes to relieve myself.

I never understand why people need to use cheats on Half Life. It's certainly not an easy game, espically if you're playing on hard, but it's still beatable. If you cheat, you really take the whole point out of the game. Personally, I'm proud that I've beaten it on Easy, Medium, and Hard without the use of cheats.

I never did see the difference between quicksave, and cheating anyway...you're just going to reload, so why not cheat :p

Anyway, the worm in "Blast Pit" annoys me, so after playing HL so many
times, I just try to get through that as quickly as possible...

im sorry, but whoever has to cheat in hl is, plain and simple a dumbass. Its actually a very easy game. Even on hard the ai is very predictable. When i whooped it on hard, the only thing that seemed to change was the speed, movement, and damage at which the grunts exceeded at. But cmon... cheating hl? ahahah i think not.

PEACE

I think the spike things in the ground block the teleporters if you get behind them. And i think you can shoot them down, not sure though.

Can you even use cheats in HL with Steam?

EDIT: Oh yea, ive only just started playing HL on hard, always played it on easy before, cause im a noob like that. :) Up to Office Complex just after the machine gun, ive got too Barneys. :P

The hardest part for me was the giant headcrab momma. She was a bitch. For Nihilanth, after destroying the crystals and getting teleported 3 times, I just unloaded all my explosives on him (RPG, mp5 grenades, etc.) until he opens his head. Then i jump up and unload with the gluon gun. Even on hard, it'll kill him in a few seconds.

In op4, you can use the teleport gun when in the voltigore caves. Just use it right when you see the first voltigore, and you'll be in Xen. Then go through one of the teleports there, and you're almost at the end of the caves.

The problem with HL1 was that the AI was too exploitable if you knew where the enemies where hiding. Using satchels and laser trip mines, you can get past a lot of difficult enemies, and for some guys you can just hide around a corner. They run over, you shoot them, and then they run away. Repeat until dead. Then make good use of nades, shoot for the head, and make good use of ammo. Shotgun and the second pistol are great for taking out commandos. use the shotgun at close range, and always try to get close before resorting to the pistol. For slaves, use the normal pistol or shotgun (depending on how urgent it is to kill them). For the floating masters, use the crossbow. For the huge guys with the guns that shoot the buzzing things, use the second pistol, gauss gun, or shotgun. Never use the gluon gun until the end boss (it eats through your ammo, which is shared by the gauss gun). Use the alternate fire on the gauss gun always (it may be slower, but primary fire takes 2 ammo, while tapping second takes 1 and does more damage. If you are good enough with timing it, it becomes the best weapon by far (use it against anything that is strong). If you play it good enough, you can beat half the game w/o taking a single hit (theoretically the entire game, but i've yet to succeed at that (it is possible to survive the Blast Pit w/o taking damage from turning on the rocket. I did it once, but don't know how. I just think you have to stand at the right place (or maybe it was a bug))).

And don't underestimate the power of snarks, for taking out some guys hiding around a corner (in the level after the processing plant, when you have little ammo. Snarks can really weaken down the enemies.)

Basically, play well, using everything to your advantage, and the game's a cinch, even on hard (in fact, the beginning of the game is easier. The security guards have less life, so it's easy to kill them and take their precious ammo. On easy they've quite a bit of health, so taking them down is difficult w/o losing some health in the process (or wasting some ammo, but that defeats the purpose; crowbar all the way)).

Can't wait for HL2, and hoping they have some sort of insane difficulty.
