So I've decided to start a little project, thanks to my other thread "Gina's story." (I want to thank you for all of your feedback and ideas, which created this idea.) So here is, Half Life: Episodes. (I just thought of some random name, it is definatly subject to change). It will be a series of maps, with an episode for several different characters you never got to play as in the Half Life series. These might include:
a scientist
a construction worker
a female assassin
Gina
Race X
a sercurity guard

This is not a mod. The only things that I want to change from Half Life are the player weapons models, and to make some custom maps. It may end up being simpler to have the download be in a different folder than "valve," but when I think of this, I don't think of "total conversion, Half Life mod." Just a fun, cool project.

So what would this team need?
-2-3 other level designers, besides myself
-1 modeler, for the player weapons models
-maybe 1 coder, to make it so that friendlies would be different between characters
-maybe voice talent, if we want to have dialogue
-the HL2.net community to help out with ideas, maybe a writer

I am not looking for the "best of the best." I am looking for anyone who is interested and enthusiastic about the story and this project. This is to gain experience and to have fun. If you want to be part of the team, you can PM me or just comment here, or if you want, you can email. Also, I don't want you to think that I want to be the "leader" of this, because I definately do not. All members of the team will have equal say on what we are going to do, I will not explain it for you.

About the story:
The different characters would all interact and intertwine into one big storyline which follows the premises of the original Half Life plot. Other details should be discussed and created here, but if I actually get this project off of the ground, some things may be secret to the public, as we want to make suprises.

Please, all of you, suggestions and critisism are welcome! :)

Thanks. :)

Nice idea, Who's Gina? I read the other thread..but...meh :(

Gina is the hologram in the Hazard Course. She is also the star of Half Life: Decay, which came with the PS2 version of Half Life.

I forgot to say before.... THIS IS FOR HALF LIFE 1! Although, it may also be for Opposing Force. And, if I get a team, we will aim to finish before HL2 is released. (That won't be too hard, apparantly.)

HL death plans on finishing before Hl2 Link pls click on the banner ads exempt the top one.

I'm also tweaking a PHP version found Here pretty damn lagged though.

How far are you underway, Kyo? Maybe I could join, help out, or maybe you guys could go along with some of the stuff I said up there? Maybe?

I would be interested in modelling some simple weapons and props... I have been learning the 3dsmax modelling application rather than XSI as XSI just doesn't have enough tutorials and is just way too damn confusing... I would also be interested in mapping, however, I am not the greatest mapper :)

-merc

All our code is done, and mapping is coming along at a steady pace. I'd welcome new members, but I have to dicuss that with Fragbait0 (he can really be an ass at times)

Good mapping comes with experience, merc, and I've yet to see your models. (and I don't know a damn thing about those crazy things. :))

I'd be happy to have some models from you, I think it would be a fairly simple task of changing some player weapons models, and maybe some props, too. :) So if you'd like, you can join the team.

Kyo, I think that since your project has gone so long already, that I'll just start this one. But maybe we could have some partnership (like, some missions have your character involved, and some of yours has ours.)

We may need an animator, as well, to animate new sequences with the original half life models. This all depends on how popular this is...

Hrm... I'm interested. I need something like this in my portfolio. Message me on AIM or MSN. I have skill in level design and 2d work (be it skins, or textures). I can also do concepts and promo art.

Okay, so we have:

Me: Story, level designer
Merc: Modelling, possibly mapping, possibly story
Snowball: Textures, possibly mapping, possibly story

Anyone else, this is shaping up pretty good!

(PSSST, Badger! You must join! Pweeze?)

Why does that idea and list sound familiar? Hmmmm... :flame:

Just joking. I could do some *ahem* story and some texturing, if thats even necessary. Probably not as good as snowball, but projects are the best way to get better. ;)

Since I've got all the various HL plots basically memorized, I could be a "consultant" on stuff.

Or something...

Hehe, I gave you guys credit up there! :) You are pretty much already part of the storyline team, and you could do some texture, too, maybe. I'd have to see your work. You should PM me your AIM screen name or an email or something like that.

And thats exactly what I hope to achieve with this project.

Consult away! You can post stuff here, and you could help out with the story. I think we want it so that you can see characters like Gordan, Shephard and Blus Shift Barney throughout the game.

Do you have AIM or an email?

I'd say it would be a great learning experience. I would be more than glad to help you along and teach you some things if you wanted. Heck, maybe you can teach me a thing or two. Me and Merc were up till the wee hours of the morning just messing around with stuff. Was pretty fun.

What do you need? I'm after some mapping experience, and I'm familiar with Hammer.

Oh, and Kyo, your site.. ack, it hurts my eyes ;( and I'd advise you to get some proper hosting etc :)

Mappers would be awesome. Do you have an AIM screen name? It would be cool if do or if you could get one, cuz thats what all of the other people have. And I think we are gonna start a chat room to begin production. I'd like to see some examples of your work, too, not for hiring really, but just because. :)

I'd love to have you on the team, Badger. This will definately be a learning experience, too.

This is shaping out pretty damn well. One thing... it isn't neccesary at this time, but maybe sometime in the future we could get someone to make a website for us? That would help out; I'm sure. It isn't a big neccesity, though.

This just caught my attention but it doesn't sound as if you need a writer. If you're interested I could maybe help as a... creative consultant? ;)

Ah, I'm sorry dude, but the team has gotten bigger than I expected and I can't really add anyone else without making it too big.

I'll keep you posted if we need your assistance at anything, though. :) Thanks.

P.S. We might need a coder (DON'T TELL BADGER!!) ;)

Okay, quick update on the "mod" for anyone interested.

Our temporary homepage is here, terribly sorry for pop-ups but geocities is the devil.

We are looking for a skilled coder interested in the project. The work we have for you is relatively short and simple, but you can do more if you would like as well. We need to implement things that would be harder to do without one of you neat people. So PM me your applications, or email them to [email protected], or post them here. I would like an example or two of your previous experience (somehow) and some form of contact. Oh please oh please someone respond? :)

Thank you, and cheers

BUMP!

Last request, after this I'm giving up on a coder search in these forums.

To make up for my bumping, I will give you all an update.

Check out our temporary webpage again. Heh. We are making awesomely cool progress, Ambient.Impact from the HL: Enhanced team has given us permission to use his awesomely redone Half Life SD (Super Definition) models. We are also including detail textures, as well as some other cool stuff. Check it out.

i cant wait to play this!!!
i dont think you would want my ideas but the construction worker could have been sent to the big container of nuclear wastes that leaked that we see at the beginning of HL and then repaired in op4??

idk, its dum...

Heh, looks like lotsa people are interested in playing it, but no one wants to help. :( No coder for us, I'll just have to figure out the SDK myself. Heh.

And Badger, you better get to work soon or I'll take away all of your... stuff!

By the way, we are using Ambient.Impact's Super Definition models, better than the HD ones that came with Blue Shift. Which will be awesome.

What kind of code do you need exactly? I may be able to help in that department. Hl-Death is on vacation at the moment.

Check your PM box. :) Thanks!

Episodes update:

We have a cool new programmer, just to let all of you know. And a new talented mapper, too. Which is awesome.

The only difference between us and HL1 will be that we won't be giving out release dates until we are absolutely sure that we will make it. We currently are targeting a "in the future" release. Meaning, not right now, as I write this. ;)

This seems like something I would be interested in. You may not be looking for a writer, but I would like to offer my services as one anyway :). My credentials include some published works (poetry), and a commedation by a producer from EA on a storyline that I had submitted to them as a sequel to one of their games. I would really like to help in this project in anyway that I can, pm me or email me at [email protected], thanks!

Punisher is our writer, no more room for more. Thanks for the application, though. Might as well post openings here, now.

We might need, in the future:
voice talent (both new voices and people that can mimick original voices)
mapper
animator
ambient sound artist
modelling (unlikely)

Just to let you know, these positions are filled:
writer/storyline
2D art
programming

Anyone interested can PM me or reply here. Don't expect to be joined right in, though, since we have limited openings. Our team is big enough as is.

Damned sheep, pulling up the history of Half Life: Episodes. :P

Well, might as well say something now:

We are alive, we are now a mod for Source, and we are working hard on the first episode right now. We could use:

Modellers
Mappers
Experienced Coders

:)

Visit our site here. (We are planning on redoing it this weekend, but just visit the forums for now :))
