I posted in this forum a few days ago about the upcoming half life movie (if u want a link to the site, ask me) and i just thought i'd start a discussion about something:

Who do you think should be cast for the characters? like, gordan, g-man, or barney? Just thought it would be something cool to talk about.

Personally, i think Tom hanks would be a good gordan, and Agent Smith from the Matrix would make a good G-man. Barney would be cool if he were played by someone like George Clooney.

whether you think the movie is real or not, who do you think should play them?

Upcoming Half-Life movie? WTF?

I ask you to link me if only because I'm curious as to what kind of butchering will be possible.

Ugh... I don't see how this kind of game can translate to film.

wtf, that's the worst set for the actors Dviper... johnny like to do a dance, johnny like to poopoo pants, pooh pant, pooh pant pooh pant pooh pooh pant!

This will be an awful movie, im sorry, but as much as the game rocks this just isnt a movie story line. Can you imagine the main character in a film not speaking the entire way through.

Christian Bale. He has what it takes to play gordon. Give him a haircut, beard, glasses, and your set.

There will be no movie imo...

Also there is no need for this, i sense only bad things if hollywood gets ahold of Half-life. It'd probably be better if there were a series of books covering other things in the Half-life universe.

this was talked about by me along time back *check my thread history*

i even said chritorpher walken as g-man and edward norton as gordon before g4!

but i thought bruce willis would be a cool Barney. thier choice is still cool :D

i wish there is a movie...BUT IT HAS TO BE story from first and second...

first needs the intro of gordon going to work and then the disaster....

second well there is fantastic story in hl2.

but it needs the intro to hl

How about this....
If there was a movie, the POV would be from scientists, guards, and the mercenaries. That way, Gordon will never be seen talking. I think that'd work better. It'd be like combining Blue Shift with Opposing Force, and then an alternate POV from the scientists working in the labs.
I believe that the G-Man should be seen talking, and people could here what he said. That'd be really interesting, especially if it linked up with the storyline of Half-Life. It'd be a must-see for fans, to better understand what's going on.
God, now I'm all excited...I'm going to write a script now...
|Slaps self| Can't think about movie...get back to term paper....

personally, i would like to see the gman as the gman, gordon as gordon and alyx as alyx :p make a animated movie such as final fantasy

Yeah, maybe from Barney's point of view.... a Blue Shift movie wouldnt be bad. An animated movie would be cool, just need the voice actors and we already have most of them.

its going to be a given that companies will try to get the rights to do a movie based on games.... look doom is getting a movie...
re got 2 movies and both of them were alright..

Guy's why are so many of you against a Half-life Film...?!

The first thing that hit me after playing Half-life 2, other then the great graphics and life-like interactions with objects, was WOW what a great script for a movie. I undersatnd some concerns as to how to solve the issue of Gordon not speaking. On one hand, if you see the film through another character, like Barney, you don't really understand and feel who is Gordon, remember, the essence of Half-Life is that YOU are Gordon and effectively affect his characteristics. But, on the other hand, it would be far too dangerous for hollywood OR Valve themselves to spontaneously say this is how Gordon is. The eventual character would not appeal to everyones taste. Besides, we remeber Superman as Christopher Reeves (pbuh), we want to remember Gordon AS Gordon and not the actor that palyed him. I think an animation would work, far easier to do and a safer bet. But it wouldn't appeal to non-gamers (some of you may say "who cares!"). Half-Life needs to be filmed with real actors and unfortunately with famous actors who have built an image perfectly suited tp characters in half-Life. The actors proposed by http://www.g4techtv.com/cinematech/features/50283/What_If_They_Made_A_HalfLife_2_Movie.html are very good, excellent. Role on hollywood....PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!

Half Life the movie would ruin the integrity of the games and I hope it doesn't happen. I must say I would have to agree with you about Tom Hanks as gordon though. He is just too damn good in everything he does. Plus he's a little nerdy and a little tough if he has to be, like in Saving Private Ryan....

I almost forgot to throw in why I disagree with the movie.

Games based on Movies totally suck, IMO. At least most of them seem to. And if HL2 became a movie then HL3 would be nothing but a game based on a movie instead of just being an awesome game.

Johnny Depp, wtf, he has great acting skills, but last time I checked, Gordon never spoke....

Well, if it is done faithfully, like Lord of the Rings, then I don't have a problem with it.

Half-life has a lot of high-concepts, but hey, it's still a SHOOTER. For the movie to work, we're going to need some more background and plot driven stuff - especially with regards to the characters.

Because it would be an "Hollywood" film, which i can't stand. And there's just no need for an Half-life movie. Please Valve, don't let Hollywood ruin the image of Half-life. Unless it's directed by Stanley Kubrick. :cheese: (...yes i know he's dead)

the reason for the success of the Lord of the Rings movies was because Peter Jackson was a huge fan and he just happened to a director also, so if you get a good director with intelegence and is a half-life fan, then you might have a good movie

This seems familiar

..LOL

my picks:

Cast:

Gordon Freeman - Ewan McGregor
Alyx Vance - Jessica Alba
Barney Calhoun - Val Kilmer
The Gman - Gary Oldman
Dr. Eli Vance - Morgan Freeman
Dr. Kleiner - Ben Kingsley
Dr. Judith Mossman - Claire Danes
Dr. Breen - Max Von Sydow
Father Grigory - Brian Blessed
Dog - Jack Angel

This is pretty easy; I'd already planned out the first Half-Life. The second would take more work 'cause there's more character interaction and more characters.

These picks are for HL 1, and are based off my interpretation of the characters, but said interpretation is completely correct.

Gordon Freeman - This guy: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid103/pa64b240b3deb8f19e7c633244c9d2429/f9aa74c5.jpg
*Edit* that link's dead, but it was to a picture of some dude who looked exactly like Freeman. I figure you don't need an actualy actor for Gordon 'cause he never talks, you just need someone who can kick some ass.
Walter Bennet - Gene Hackman
Barney Calhoun - Keanu Reaves
The Administrator - Hugo Weaving
Eli Vance - Morgan Freeman
Otis - (any fat dude)
Dr. Groat - Bill Murray
Dr. Simmons - Jack Nicholson
Gina - Rachel Weisz

What I like about G4tech TV's proposed cast, is that almost all of the actors are from cult movies, or aren't already tied to a franchise. I feel that if you select actors that are more mainstream, like Hugo Weaving or Keanu Reaves, non-fans could potentiaally view this as a cheap knock-off of the Matrix, or another equivalent.

Personally, I feel that Half-Life would work best as a TV serial, where each episode deals with a chapter from the first game (17 in total, but it could get reduced to 13 as per TV standards). Each episode would be about an hour or two in length, and each episode would end in a cliff-hanger. It wouldn't revolve around Gordon and his lone killings, but around multiple characters trying to do what they can to survive and uncover the conspiracies/misteries that become evident.

Of course it is extremely tough to do a movie as complex as the Half-Life plot. A movie like DOOM 3 is easy since the plot is just a concept: Portal opens, all hell breaks loose, try and stop the invasion. Half-Life on the other hand, has a deeper series of events that must be included in order to work. G-man, Gordon, Military intervention, Xen, how the protal opened, who are these alien creatures, etc. (well kinda)

Well, enough rambling. I shouldn't really be in here anyway (I haven't even gotten my hands on Half-Life 2 yet). :O

I personally would hate to see Gordan Freeman in real life form, or even in 3rd person view...and worst of all a talking gordon...wtf

I think, if they were to make a half life movie, they shouldn't focus on Gordon at all, like occasionalyl show his progress, but he'd be alone and not have to talk.
But focus on a different character, maybe a new one, one we've never seen before, and how they escaped Black Mesa; then we could get Breen, Eli, Kleiner, Barney, Gman, etc. But it be a different part of Black Mesa, and maybe start it before the incident, get a little back story, cover some holes up, and go straight through Black Mesa incident... maybe even hit the 7 hour war, or do it Kill Bill Style with Volume one and Volume 2

For me GMan should be Rob Brydon. And not just because they look alike.

There have been thousands of these threads. Post something useful.
