Dunno if you've seen this before but theres a really cool site with pictures of Half-Life before it got scrapped and rebuilt.

And this particularly weird one.
Just thought this might be of interest as I hadn't seen the site before. We could also reminisce (sp?). :p
 
that reminds me. i was looking through one of my old mags and theres a preview shot of some grunts in what looks to be a lecture room, one is pinning a scientist to the white board and pointing a gun at him. This was never in HL, so i wonder if some of the shots we get from Valve showing HL2 are mock ups or actual gameplay. The ones we havent seen in the videos i mean.

This is so old, obviously, but I never get tired of seeing it.

It's amazing.

In some ways I wish they'd release the original version that they scrapped because it'd be so cool just seeing, what could have been.
 
You're forgetting...

Those were the days just before Quake 2... That stuff is the equivalent of when we first saw the G-Man video. For its time, Half-Life had quite realistic graphics.
 
Makes you think, in like 5 or 6 years will we look at the pre-release HL-2 screenshots and movies and say "oh my god, they actually released this stuff to the public?"
 
Of course we will.

Give it to DX11 or 12 and we'll be getting photo realistic.

I think that's a Barney Zombie... I don't know why they didn't include it either... Quite odd. Those didn't actually appear until OpFor in the end.
 
From the looks of it, the origional Half-life that was scrapped was a horror story. Like something out of a teen slasher, the typical corpses everywhere, people running in fear. HOrrible mosters running a muck.
Thank God whoever hired that writer and the modeler and Texture and Map people and fired the old one :p

Ive tried bsplay avipreview new and old wmp winamp 5 and even some creative player.. Nothing works :( I also tried to dl it from both FP servers... HELP

That's because the file is "cooked". I'm not sure what it means, but you can use this program to "uncook" it. Then it'll be playable :D.
 
Yeah, they employed Marc Laidlaw after they scrapped that version.

He has a lot to do with what HL1 became. That's why I have so much faith that HL2 will be just as good or better.

It's going to have that very same feeling and atmosphere that Marc can create.
 
That G-Man vid was well good, its amazing at what sort of quality people were happy with 5 years ago, and the advances that have been made now :)

My mum was surprised by it :)
 
Hehe I showed off HL² bink vids at a lan thing back in december and sounds of wow and omg was in the air that was so cool!

EDIT: YaY it worked!! Thank you guys very much. It was pretty cool also.
