I own Half-Life, but only on the PS2. Never got around to getting the PC version back in the day for a lot of reasons - mostly hardware related.

But I do prefer the mouse/keyboard over a pair of clunky joysticks, so I'm wanting to play the original half-Life again - but I dont know whether to get Half-Life or Half-Life Source. THey're the same price on steam, but to slightly complicate things further, they have the original with a set including Blue Shift and Opposing Force. Not sure how interested I am in playing those, but if I bought the set I would try them out.

So what should I grab? I know the differences are slight, but the price is identical.

But the set with OF and BS have the high-resolution textures for HL right? Does HLS use the high resolution textures, or do they use the original 90's vintage textures?

most people here would go crazy over this.. I personally think the expansions were decent, but seemed (to me) more to be like the original half life with some new levels. I think you may like them and they keep you playing half life a little longer. Plus source is just hl1 with slightly better lighting, not much a difference, and really wierd ragdolls.... Thats the only difference

VERDICT: Get the pack with the expansions, has more value, and theres hardly a difference between the original and source...

Don't get Source, it's atrocious and it will probably make your eyes bleed.

HL:S is buggy and not better than the GoldSrc version in the least, it was more of an experiment than anything else.

Get the original Half-Life, not HL:S. Opposing Force and Blue Shift are both definitely worth your time as well, although they're not as awesome as HL itself.

Half-Life Source is basically a tech-demo.

Listen to the others. Heed their advice.
