I am going out to buy the Half Life: Platinum set today because I only played HL2 and I wanna play the rest. It comes with HL1, OPFOR, Blue Shift, Counter Strike (which im selling to my friend becaues i have cs s and dont need this one), and tfc. I think the hl1 is game of the year edition, whats the difference between that and the original? Can i still play the mods like brainbread and sven-co-op with the GOTY edition of hl1? Thanks.

As far as I know, Game of the Year Edition is just HL1 all updated and patched up. I don't know if that effects how mods are played, I doubt it.

you know u'll give the cs cd to a friend but with no cd key?

I don't see how you are going to sell CounterStrike to a friend. For one, its a free mod (1.6) and required hl1 installed and two it will have the same CD key as HL1, so you won't be able to play anything online(HL1DM, TFC ect) if he registers the CD key first with steam.

The GOTY edition of HL1 will work fine standalone in single player, however to be able to play online(like sven-co-op over the internet), you need to register it with steam as WON(online check used to check cd keys ect) has been discontinued. This is fine really, but just saying so you know.

u can buy cs seperately and get it without hl1, so it might have a cd key.
but WHY TEH FOOK are you giving it away!?!?! ITS SO MUCH BETTER THAN SOURCE

I have HL Platinum Edition, and I'm looking at the CD sleeves right now, and yes, HL and CS have different cd-keys, not the same one. So you should be able to sell it. Just a note however, HL Platinum does not come with Steam, so if you have broadband Internet, just register your HL cd-key with Steam, then download it through Steam. I think you can install HL off the CD and then Steam can take the files and make a GCF out of them, but this wouldnt work for me and I ended up having to download through Steam.

edit: I think the HL key that comes with HL Platinum might be a sort of 'master key' that register all the products that come in the set, so I'm unsure if your friend would be able to register CS on his computer. Because I think when I installed HL, I just entered the HL key, then it said all the products were installed (HL, TFC, Blue Shift, OpForce, CS)

Hey man, some people like Source way more.

Don't bother paying for HL:platinum. Just buy regular Half-Life ($10), and when you plug-in the CD key in Steam, it will cound as Platinum and you'll get all the games anyway (except Blue Shift).

That happens with anyone's HL1 CD Key surely, given that TFC and CS are a free-addition to Half-Life 1, and so is Opposing Force under steam. Blue Shift isn't on Steam, so you must be mistaken about that one.

Edit: In fact, this is kind of what WhiteZero said above me!

The platinium edition comes with a cd key for every game(DIFFRENT!) onsept blue shift(Dun need one).

So if you want like 4 cd keys just buy the platinum edition otherwize no real reason to get it.

id just buy it from steam online, because i would be afraid someone already took the cdkey with a keygen

the chance of that is like 1 in a few million... and yes, CS in the platinum edition has its own cd key, so its safe to sell it.
