Half-Life Radio Interviews Gabe

Thanks! I haven't seen this either!

yeah, first I had seen of the transcript of the show. I wonder when they'll get the tanscript of the othe show up.

I liked this interview, gives a glimpse into the desperation Valve are currently going through to release the game. Usually they portray this lifeless corporate entity, but now you can get see more emotion behind what they're doing.

It's refreshing.

Way too short interview, but good read nonetheless... I'd like to have some info on the hacker issue, as one of the guys over there stated...

So you can't tell us any new information? Outstanding!

The interview was waay to short for the time everyone was waiting for it. They said the interview would be at 7:00 and the interview didnt happen until around 8:30 and everyone was sitting around listening to bad music and stupid jokes on this so-called half-life radio

Chill out guys.... don't have to harp on halflife radio... (well... at least exclusivly :p)

It wasn't the best of interviews--really, what do you expect from kids playing radio?--but it contained some nice information none the less. This quote was quite interesting:
Well, for the first time we're talking about what we're going to be doing for multiplayer for Half-Life 2, and what we've done is, we've taken all the original Half-Life 1 content.. so Half-Life 1 single player, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress Classic, DeathMatch, Day of Defeat, and we moved them over to source. We are showing that to people... so that you can see what De_Aztec looks as people are playing it. So that you can see how we take advantage of shaders and ... physics...to create a better environment for the multiplayer games which are about 90% of what's being played online.
So Gabe has pretty much confirmed that Half-Life 2's multiplayer will be revamped versions of Valve's previous multiplayer titles. While Team Fortress Classic is one of my favorite multiplayer games and I couldn't more thrilled, I was kind of hoping for something new.

I think TFC, at least, will be amazing to play with updated physics and graphics, and perhaps a few new maps or gameplay modes. Updated EMP grenade effect, anyone? Heeheehee! :D

Agreed. I think everyone was expecting something new, given all the secrecy. But I can understand why they did this:

1) They HAD to bring the old MP games to Source. Leaving those players on the old platform would've been stupid, by upgrading them to Source you get more people to buy HL2 and get on Steam, and you get to continue development on them in the Source engine. There would be no point in producing updates for the mods before they were in Source, they had to be ported to the new engine so development could continue.

2) They didn't have enough resources to get HL2SP out on time, or even within 9 months of the original date. They certainly didn't have enough extra resources to develop a whole new MP game. They had their hands full with the Source ports and HL2SP. Given the choice between slapping together some crappy MP that nobody would play, or waiting until they had the resources and time to do it correctly, they chose to wait. Within a couple months of release there will be some interesting community-created MP mods anyway.

yup :)
this will not only help HL2 but also re-new interest in HL-MP in general while mod teams are working hard to get their games completed.

i don't think mods will be coming out as soon as pple seem to think.. good things take time and a re-vamped MP will keep most of us busy while waiting for some of the interesting mods out there.

The more complicated ones will definitely take awhile. But I bet you within 2 months of release there will be dozens of MP mods that are some variant of "DM with Manipulators and vehicles", and at least a few of them will be worth playing.
