Hey guys my name is Mike Hough, im from a Film Crew called Phobia Films. For the last few months weve been planning a short film called Half Life: Chronicles. Yes I am a new member, and Ive totally been obsessed with the game for a while lol. So yeah, the reason for me posting here, was because I would like to have input from you guys, like what you guys would like to see. I am on the behalf of people who hate VideoGame to Film movies. That's why Id love to try my own, to show people what they really want to see.

Oh yeah, and for the Naysayers who would hate a Half Life movie, keep in mind this isnt a feature Film, but an Amateur Film. So you guys have a lot more input and more chance of seeing what you want to see.

What plans do you have? Is this set during the HL era or HL2? Are you trying to do something involving characters from the game or of your own creation? Etc etc. Give us something to chew on.

What's the synopsis? What's your budget? What are you shooting on?

Whatever you do, please don't make a film about Gordon (please!). There're plenty of side characters in Half-Life Universe.

Make it when Gordan and Colonel Shepard meet and fight when he was sent from Gman.

INT. BLACK MESA, TRAM STATION - DAY

The facility is abuzz this morning. SCIENTISTS bustle through the stark corridors,
curtly greeting each other and making small talk. We can overhear murmurs of
an EXPERIMENT.

INT. BLACK MESA, SECTOR C - SAME TIME

A CRYSTAL is being loaded onto a cart. A HEV-SUITED WOMAN pushes the cart
onto a lift.

INT. BLACK MESA, TEST CHAMBER

GORDON FREEMAN operates some machinery, turning dials and flipping switches.
He punches a few codes into a keypad, activating the ANTI-MASS SPECTROMETER.
He pushes the sample into the beam, and a massive explosion erupts, shaking
loose pieces of the ceiling and tearing the chamber apart. Green energy swirls
and pops in and out of view; then darkness.

INT. BLACK MESA, OUTSIDE TEST CHAMBER

An AMATEUR FILM CREW that is trying to create a movie about a game which needs
no film adaptation is unceremoniously killed by a stray laser beam that slices them
and their camera in half, destroying any footage they may have caught.

EXT. STAR FIELD - UNKNOWN TIME

A MAN IN A SUIT rides a tram through endlessly spanning stars. He adjusts his tie,
and checks off a note on a clipboard. As he inserts the clipboard into his BRIEFCASE,
we catch a glimpse of the paper:

FILM TEAMS THAT HAVE ATTEMPTED TO CREATE HL MOVIE: 5
STATUS: DECEASED

What're you being snarky about? That's Golden Globe material, son.

To answer most of your questions, the movie will be set in Hl2 Era. The story will not involve Gordan or any other characters. It is from a teens perspective named Mike, who flees from City 17 to find his friend who Escaped months before. Our film is going to have more story and length than the Purchase brother's. It really only seems like they made theirs just to show off effects and just make it live action for 5 minutes. A lot of people want to see some story, and thats what they are going to get. We already have awesome guys cast to play Metro Cops, both in the city, and on the outside areas trying to track down and kill Mike, and whoever stands in thier way. Its really cool because we've crafted some scenes in which the Metro ops use their Asps, and even one gets his mask ripped off in a fight scene. I think you guys will really like it for what its worth. Im still writing the script too, so this leaves a lot of room for extra thoughts from all of you.

Oh yeah, we have Rollermines, and quite possibly headcrabs in this Film.

Ignore what we say and do your own thing and maybe it will be crap but it will be YOURS!!!

Oh I don't know, have a bloody good script, that's the important thing.

I think a film about the day of the resonance cascade would be sweet. Like from barney and the scientists point of view before the accident. It would deal with whats going into the experiment and pretty much just all of the details surrounding it. However, this would require some awesome effects and visual surroundings that probably couldn't be covered by a simple budget. I just have this picture in my head with the movie ending with the line "They're waiting for you in the test chamber, Gordon"

But idk, my idea could and probably would be very dull and boring, but I think I'd find it interesting

Oh without a doubt its going to be bloody. We already pre-ordered a bucket of blood, plus a squib. And we have tons of effects being prepared.

I totally understand your pov man.

Much like the Purchase bros, were on a $500 budget, shooting on HD.

What camera are you using? It's one thing to shoot HD, but it's an entirely different thing to shoot broadcast quality HD.

Why are you making a movie when you have a phobia of films?

The Rollermines will be Physical Models, with CGI electricity surrounding it.
I will post pictures up of one when we finish creating it.

Do you guys think it would be cool, original, and a lot more interesting to see a story from the combines point of view?

I think it would be much harder to show on such a budget, and you'd have to make a lot of decisions that may alienate some fans since you aren't Valve.

Since you're on a budget, and more than likely going to have a heck of hard time doing CGI because of that, I'd recommend checking out videocopilot.net for some After Effects tutorials that'll help with the effects and motion-tracking. For that matter, I'd recommend having very simple camera movement during these CGI shots. After-Effects is pretty terrible at tracking (assuming you're using After Effects).

You'll have to do tests of these shots well before you shoot them, so you know you can pull them off without diving head on into something that'll look terrible when you're finished.

Also, what editing suite are you using? Final Cut Pro? Sony Vegas? Adobe Premiere? Have you considered your colour-grading options?

Have Any Other Movies to do with half life?

Wouldn't be that hard to show a metrocop's day.

Exactly!

Yes we already have previously filmed test footage in our other projects, so I get what your saying there. We are using Adobe Premiere CS4. We have the whole package with Photoshop After Effects and all that good stuff. Although I dont use After Effects for effects, only for titles. We use FXhome for muzzle flashes, optics, particles, and Grades.
:rolling:

I dont know why I didnt ask this before, and why nobody else did... but what other films have you produced? Are the up on the 'nets anywhere for us to see?

Just google Phobia Films and you'll find a myspace page of theirs.

We havent made any new films in the last 5 months because weve been taking time writing scripts, raising money for better programs, and a new camera. Well now we have everything we need and were ready to start these 5 scripts we have. So by saying so, all of our videos are older and they dont show the potential weve raised in the last 6 months studying, learning new techniques, and ha ha graduating High School. One of my partners just graduated, im going into my senior year. So to see our most recent better work, check these out.

Our most recent (6 months ago) Also this was before we got our hd camera.
