Half-Life: Source = dissapointment

I was planning on playing Half-Life: Source before Half-Life 2, but after the first level I came to a conclusion that there's nothing different about Half-Life: Source and Half-Life 1. Same textures, same physics, same tihs. The only thing it has is the high definition pack that came with Blue Shift.

Um, yeah... it's Half Life. That's all anyone ever said it would be, in every interview and article. I never played HL1, so I loved it.

I agree, I was/am a bit disappointed in it. I played a couple of levels and at one time, actually quit the game to make sure I launched HL: Source and not HL.

I guess I was hoping to see MP in HL:S ... hoping that it was the "surprise" multiplayer.

I didn't expect them to completely remake HL or anything -- but there was definitely more "wow" factor when going from CS to CS:S.

That's exactly what it was supposed to be. Just HL ported to Source.

Where did people get the idea that HL:S was supposed to be more than a straight port to source?

Not a disappointment, just...

Not a disappointment, just not worth extra $10, IMO... On the other hand, Day of Defeat will come out in Source after some time, and Silver Package has it, so perhaps it's not a complete waste... :p

It was always meant to be a port of HL, direct... And to people talking about High-Def Pack - my HL:Source was with ORIGINAL, not HDPACK models, did ya guys find way to change it?

People read what Valve said, HL:S = physics simulation, enhanced effects whereas DOD:S = enhanced graphics and sounds

So don't expect HL:S to be a drastic change like CS to CS:S.

ODD: I don't have high def models. I don't understand why not. They are the same models as in the original; not the blue shift ones. Anyone have any idea why? I would REALLY like to get this fixed.

As an aside: I love the physics and ragdoll effect. Sounds and lighting is way better and the water kicks butt, imho.

I don't think it uses the Hi-Def models - all the screenshots in the level select screen use ye olde ones. Wish it would though; some change would be nice.

Well I missed where Valve said the only thing they implemented from the Source engine to Half Life: Source was just the lighting and water, then I wouldn't of gotten the Silver package.

At least you got DoD. And you have to admit it looks a little better. :p

As for what Valve has said, it's hard to tell these days due to speculation; where has Valve "officially" said anything? The "buzz" was that CS:S is just a port of CS, using the same maps, etc.

I think what I'm disappointed in was the hopes for HL:S DM -- was hoping there'd be a multiplayer component. I certainly didn't expect them to go back and retexture everything.

I was expecting them to redo the textures to look sweet on HL:Source or redo the models. But I can't even tell the difference between HL and HL source when running at a decent res!

I got the silver really for blue shift (which I have not played) but then it turns out it does not come with it, oh well.

As they stated earlier, HL:S was a test to see how difficult it would be to port a game over to the new engine.

Isnt there a Mod Group out there working on making a True poirt of HL to Source, updating the graphics and textures, I coulda swore I read that somewhere... anywho, Im not disappointed, I knew what I was getting

Is there anyway to get the Hi-Def pack working with HL:S? That would make HL:S badass.
