I realize this forum is primarily for Half-Life 2, but I wasn't quite sure where else to direct this situation. I've downloaded and decrypted the files sent to me and such by Steam for both Half-Life 2 and Half-Life Source. I haven't had any problems with Half-Life 2 except for a lack of virtual memory, but my Half-Life Source is acting rather odd, if not amusing. Basically, the game runs great, but many of the characters and creatures seme to be missing some...parts.

For instance, all the Barneys lack the top portion of their helmeted heads. Yes, that silverish band at the top of their helmet is missing, which allows Gordon to get a good view into Barney's head (there isn't anything there). Further, the Vortigaunts are all missing pieces of their hunch part of their back, which (when looking at them from the front) allows me to see what is behind them. And finally, whenever Gordon picks up a weapon or something, his hands are missing. Further, when I pick up a crowbar I can't see it at all, yet I know it's there because I can break boxes and grating and such. Additionally, the barrels of most weapons (so far the soldiers' submachine gun and the SPAS-12 shotgun) are missing, as well as the sites (esp. on the submachine gun).

Other problems include a lack of words on the screen. By this, I mean the words that are supposed to say "Gordon Freeman", "MIT", and all that other jazz at the beginning of the game do not show up. Further, the words that are supposed to show up on the screen when you start a new level (i.e Anamolous Materials, "We've Got Hostiles", et cetera.) do not show up, either. Also, the reflections on the water looking like REALLY shiny sheet metal when I get upclose, but like water when I'm far away.

Beyond that, the game loads quickly and well, and I have yet to notice any other problems. :x Can anyone help me out or at least steer me in the correct direction?

So no one can truly help me with this? :x That is very disappointing...

i just played a few levels just for you

i checked i have absolutely none of these problems and water is fine for me at any distance even if it is horribly out of place among the ancient textures
however some things like scripting differences between hl1 and hl source i have noticed

can only be a hardware problem or a corrupted file

other than that the crossbow ROXXORZ

Do you think there is anyone who could help me solve it? Perhaps I should attempt a direct contact with Steam? I know, that sounds stupid, but I was trying here first to say if anyone else knew what to do before pulling out "the big guns".

well how do your other games run?
if higher end games run well like hl2 par example then your problem is localised to a software or hardware incompatibility with hl source

the other possibility is to try and re install hl source from the disk(try this first)

By reinstalling, you also mean going online and doing through that 4+ hours hell again? Hmm...maybe I'll stick with the old Half-Life...

Well, I'm glad someone enjoys my subtle humor. :E

no no just install hl source
i'm pretty sure the installation offers you the opportunity to choose to install it by itself and hl source had very few steam updates so it eouldn't take long to bring it up to speed

yeah reinstall JUST HL:S.

Go to the Play Games menu.
Right Click on Half-Life: Source.
at the bottom there is an option: Delete Local Game Content.
Click it, then you can re-download and re-install JUST HL:S.

Great! But first I have to go back online because Steam claims it can no longer work offline (after working perfectly fine for a few days)... Is this other thing I wrote just now normal for those of you who use offline mode?
