With all this crazy new E3 media and such, I got to thinking:
If the old Half-Life 1 trilogy is getting sourcified, that means that Valve might do more than just add physics and anti-aliasing.

Specifically, what part(s) of the Half-Life 1 games do you think should get the brunt of the 2004 makeover?
Any bugs you've experienced or models you'd like to see with an extra thousand polys? Various snafus?
---

For me:
The surgical robot from 'questionable ethics' in HL1 could use a big revamp. :p
The blueshift flashlight bug was often irritating.
Op4's Shock Roach was often buggy if you held down on the trigger, unless you fired it one. shot. at. a. time.

What think you?

Friendly soldiers, barneys, scientists etc etc. should be able to follow you properly. I did NOT like to guide barney through a couple of passages like he was mentally retarded or something. Oh and, they should be able to follow you through vents, ladders, actually all sorts of hinderance...

I think they'll fix all the really annoying bugs in HL on STEAM, like getting stuck on elevators and such.

I think the A.I. might get a tweaking, but the main thrust of the update will be the physics and the graphics.

Apart from porting all the original content, I think they could avail themselves of the opportunity to amend some mistakes: they should watch the "Half-Life in an hour" video - some of them are pretty obvious and easily corrigible.

Lol, you can get AA in HL1 right now. :)

Obviously all the models and textures, sounds, and animations could be redone. I'm sure that not every little thing will be changed: some of the scripted animations could stay the same, really. But all the objects that were previously either breakable or tied down can now be physics objects, and I'm sure they'll go that route since it seems like it would be so easy. I also wonder if they are going to:

-update the grunt AI
-add little touches back in that they left out of the game last time to be able to ship: like the roosting alien birds that were supposed to be around,
-add major things back in like the Psi-boss that was included in the .pak file and concept art but never used in the game.
-add in sections of the game that didn't make it to ship: like the helicopter ride
-add things like drivable vehicles (though the maps were rarely big enough to take advantage of them...)

I hope they don't add the manipulator though, or change any such major plot elements.

I love the idea! :D

Some of the scripted sequences in Half-life would look amazing on the source engine! :imu:

I would like to see Gunman ported as well as the Half-life series. Gun-man was pretty good, it tried some nice things and would be even better on Source.

Just the thought of playing through Half-Life and Opposing Force with Source quality graphics and properties is enough for me.

Don't even get me started on TFC being Sourced.

It,LL be something to play while waiting for HL³ to come out...

I meant better AA. :p

I dunno how they'd be able to cram all that stuff in without affecting the plot.
The Psi-boss is in some HL2 concept art though...

Oh I don't know about vehicles Apos. I have a feeling they may do more than just source-eh-fie it. Adding new maps?

You never know.. They may even bridge the gap between Half-life and Half-life 2 by adding something after you jump into the portal at the end?

I think a straight port of Half-Life is the way to go. Don't monkey around with the story or the gameplay, just update the textures and add physics where appropriate (ragdoll corpses, crates and boxes). Other than that. leave it alone!

There are trucks you could make sort of pointlessly driveable... even though they can't really go anywhere. :)

I hope that the redux of HL¹ is more than just a graphical update. I would love to see the scientists fleshed out more as they have been in the sequel with additional dialog. I'd at least expect Dr Kleiner, Eli and Barney to be made recognisable for the sake of continuity.

I'm curious as to whether the Physics will have had an impact upon the design of the levels and the objects found in black mesa (gas canisters anyone?).

Also in the HL² E3 footage the headcrabs can detach from the bodies and attack, I wonder if that will occu in the redux.

I'm inclined towards that point of view as well, but just look at that surgical robot...

Look at it!
:rolling:

The only thing I wouldn't like about the mchanging all the mods over to source is that its not free with hl2...

Porting the game isn't going to be cheap on man hours, that is why it's not free. It doesn't sound like they will be charging a premium price for any of the revised mods though.

They haven't even said the ported mods WON'T be free to HL2 owners, they just said they would be available commerically in retail. Counter-Strike is currently available commercially in retail, doesn't mean it isn't free to HL1 customers.

If its cheap, like $5 maybe $10 at the most, then I'll buy it, if not I'll be passing. I think its gonna be pretty much like MGS: The Twin Snakes, the first game with all the cool updated stuff of the second.

I'd like to see the Fast Walker, or whatever that friendly alien dog thing they wanted to put in was called...
