There is no doubt in my mind that there should be a HL book. I mean, Marc Laidlaw is already an author! It might be tough not having Gordon talk, but he could find a way around it. There are already a load of Halo books, and HL's storyline is way more kick ass than Halo's. Who else thinks there should be one or more?

I would love a HL book written by Marc as long as Gordon didn't feature.

It would be nice... I love sci-fi literature, but in Czech republic I can't find translations of Marc Laidlaws books (only one short cyberpunk short story) :(
It need petition!

I don't think the Half-life storytelling style would work in print, at all.

I'd also hate to see it multimedia oversaturated like pretty much every other franchise out there.

We're not talking about a movie like DOOM, we are talking about a novel penned by the same author, have you read raising the bar? Laidlaw has some serious talent at writing Half life stories.

Trust me, his book would be just as good as the game.

Nah, I don't think so. In a book, everything is put forward through the dialouge - but in a game, you can use the visual aspect to tell your story, and thats what HL2 and I think thats what Marc prefers.

Surprisingly, the original version of Raising the Bar was pretty much a fiction book.

Actually Laidlaw has (if I remember correctly, Gabe 'confirmed' this) already said that the Half-Life stories are to be told in games, and not other media.

For more reasons than need to be noted.

So there will be no book, and no movie.

Some official DVD with a lot of extra informations about story, encyclopedia and everything... will be better than movie and book...but it's only my dream
:(

Extra HL stuff like books and movies IMO could work, but only if there was one movie and less than 3 books.

i agree with the books, but id hate for the movie to suck

If the books took place during Half Life 2 with a Rebel or something, it could certainly work.

i don't think the "gordon doesn't talk" rule should be applied in books. The only reason it exists to begin with is to put you in the shoes of the character in the game. Applying that to a novel would just come off wrong. I mean, how would you feature character growth and dialogue with a character that has no expressions? You can do it in a game because YOU are the character. But in a book, that is clearly not feasible

That is why I said Gordon shouldn't feature.

If it counts I'm going to attempt to get the rights to publish my fanfiction after I finish it (granted, they will be meager attempts :( )

You never know. Maybe if you ask Valve, they'll offer it as a kind of download off Steam. I can just see the announcement now. "Download Half-Life 2: The Resistance! No, this isn't a new game, but a fan fiction written by one of our many fans!"

Actually, I think it'd be hella cool if Valve did a literature contest...

There's very little chance that will happen.

I think it would be a great book, i would love to write a book report on Half-Life the book than some crappy book that i picked up in the library. And i think gordon should talk in the book. I dont ever think that gordon should talk in the game because i would hate to be playing Hl and gordon has a stupid nerdy voice or what if he has a lisp!! That would be terrrible if he talked in the game.

Wow I was just reading some of your story, that was damn good! Keep it up!:E

If the "Parabellum" story on Planethalflife is any indication, a novel based in the HL universe(multiverse?) but not specifically on Gordon's story would kick ass.

I know the game Stalker has Literature contests which help expand on the story at their main website
