How come barely anyone has brought this up?

Half life 2 is virtually SET on the theme of 1984 - Big Brother (BREEN) watching through his video screens on the dude, Winston.

Any more thoughts/parallels?

People have brought this up tons of times. It's kind of one of those things that's so obvious that it isn't really discussed much at this point.

Besides, to a degree, any oppressive regime is going to resemble the one in 1984, because Orwell was dead on in terms of the neccessities of prolonged subversion and rule.

Half-life 2 was most inspired by comunistic totality in european socialistic block. Artist of Valve Victor Antonov is from Bulgaria. But its really inspired by G. Orwell (mayby Phillip K. Dick).

Some things do bring 1984 to mind but it's only skin deep. Orwell's vision of tomorrow was faaaaaar more sinister.

i read 1984, it's close to Combine rule, but they don't really give a rat's arse about ppl's rights, or make it seem as if they do
