Half-Life2 delayed to November. (for sure)

I'd be inclined to believe gabe rather than an anonymous vivendi pr person who is most likely going to be misquoted by a newspaper to make an interesting story. If september 30 rolls by and hl2 is nowhere to be seen then I'll be a little upset but it isn't the end of the world.

Does anyone honestly think that they know the release date for sure?

no, it means 'no comment'
if he was CERTAIN there was no delay, i think he would have said so. nuff said.

Nope, and this is why worthless posts like this will just be for entertainment until we really find out, either by the gold statement or an official press release by Valve and/or Vivendi announcing the new release date.

No comment means he doenst want tell us wether the game is delayed or not. Valve trying to finish the game for 30 sept. If they cant manage to finish the game by then... They will probably delay it.

The games been finished for months.

Just one thing I'd like to (attempt to) clear up. Is there a different deal with the steam distribution? If the game is totally finished by september 30th but vivendi wants to sit on it, couldn't valve simply release it on steam? Obviously noone wants to wait a few months for a game they can just download but 56kers would be hard pressed to download it (and streaming levels would make me go insane on my 28k connection). Needless to say; I would just set explorer to automatically reconnect and leave it downloading for a few days if that were the case...

im no expert, but i dont think valve can do that, if they dont have a contract with vivendi telling otherwise.

Not to sound like a pain in the a** here but it is not delayed they said it was a miscommunication so dont wory and just chill out!!!!!!.

hehe, yeah i would if Vivendi hadnt not verified the delay.

It could potentially destroy the boxed-version sales but perhaps it's possible. Vivendi would be screwed in this case (if they were to delay the physical distribution). It's up to the agreement/contract that valve has with vivendi.

listen, other sources also claimed that vivendi confirmed it, and then homelanfed contacted vivendi and vivendi said that there was no delay and it was a miscommunication, i dont care if the newspaper is dated as today, or tomorrow, the web will always have news out faster than paper media can, so you can choose to believe some norwegian newspaper if you'd like but it's most likely the same miscommunication that has been talked about and put to rest already.

Do you know how the game making process works?

No obviously not.

Games go through months of testing after completion and before going 'gold'

A game like half life 2 will have been extensivley play tested.

therefore the games been finished for months.

What are you thinking? Steam release before stores?

When a game is being play tested... or in other terms in beta, the game is not called finished... When HL 2 is gold... then you can call it FINISHED ;)

Plain and simple

Delayed...

Miscommunication, not delayed.....(not really official either...)

EBGames hasn't changed its' release date.

Gabe is silent ("no comment") about the issue.

Let's face it folks, November is it.

The natives are getting restless Gabe......

Product is not truly finished until the development team says it's gold.

Ironing out bugs and/or glitches is key to making a quality product.

Exactly. And it will be available worldwide instantaniously whenever they release it through steam. Unless the traffic overloads their servers that is. Personall I'd rather an actuall copy but I'm not too fussy.

but face it.. HL2 has been delayed.. even tothegame (who are always right on release dates) have pushed back the date.. ;(

well, its the net version of the newspaper and its dated today around... yeah, ****.. just read at the bottom.. the journalist writing the article is indeed only writing about games for the newspaper and he knows about the rumour mill, but the fact still remains: they called, vivendi confirmed the delay and that is all i have to say about it.

I just got mail from the vg.no journalist. He told me he called them one minute before the article was uploaded. He also told me Vivendi had known about it for several weeks but they could not say anything before today. So i guess its not long before this pops up on other websites saying they have called and got the same story about delay :)

I don't know why gabe would on more than one occasion say 30th Sept and then change that to no comment if he was 100% sure there would be no delay, it's also foolish to believe the publisher has no say in when the game hits the street.

I hope the game doesn't get delayed but if it does then I hope the delay is minimal. The wait is hard enough as it is!!!

For crying out loud, you guys are retarded.

Every other day someone is wetting themselves over the newest article with "confirmed sources" and all, or the personal email from Gabe or Amy Fisher (or whatever that VU person was) about delay or not delay. Let's break it down.

1. Gamespot and others post delay, from "confirmed sources" at VU.
2. nw909 posts his email from game "first I've heard about it"
3. email from VU is posted about valve "working toward sept. 30"
4. email from VU is posted about "miscommunication"

nothing happens for a while....

5. random Norwegian paper (paper, as in the printed kind, as in the kind that is usually a couple of days late) reports HL2 delayed.

# of official statements from Valve and VU: 0. None. Nada. Zilch. ZERO! No comment means no comment.

We have no idea. Jasco, you need to reevaluate your faith in random Norwegian newspapers. Magnetic is making good arguments but thefact is he doesn't any more about the release date than we do. I would like to think it has not been delayed. I'm not inclined to change my mind until I hear more than this stupid rabid speculation.

And anyone who thinks online store shipping dates mean anything is a moron.

:flame:

edit: for some reason i wrote "have life" instead of "half-life"...

That's my big reason for not really putting much stock in this report: far more reputable sources have reported the same thing, only to later retract it.
I'm not going to listen to ANYTHING other than an official word.

It's delaid! I don't think this vg journalist would screw himself over by telling something that he wasn't 100% sure of.

I am norweigian so I understand what he vrote. It sounded very legit.

:)Jeg sier bare hei god dag farvell god kveld. :)

Of course not. Because the media never publish anything they aren't 100% sure of. Please.

Can we all please just wait till Valve or Vivendi make an official announcement?

Some of you guys are in some serious denial. It's clear that there's a high likelyhood HL2 will be delayed. If you accept that the chances are low for it being released on Sept. 30, you'll feel a lot better when the release date is officially announced.

Neither Valve nor Vivendi ever denied that HL2 is delayed, anyone who thinks so is confused about how PR works. Here's a tip for you: Vivendi is much more likely to be blunt and upfront with retail stores than with fans. Retail stores don't have any emotional attachment to a release date, they just want to prepare for the event. Fans on the other hand, write 70 post threads arguing and whining about release dates.

Yes, it would've been nice if Valve could've made their first date, but I think that was a pipe dream from the beginning.

Can I remind you that Fragmaster from PHL said that he is 100% sure of the delay first of all and he is/was one of the most respected newsmasters of the HL community. I've been visiting PHL pretty much every day for the last 5 years to see the news and articles that he is writing. I had a lot of respect for the guys words.

Now I still do, but it appears that he is now quite possibly wrong, which leads into the second point.

Valve have said on numerous occasions that the release date is 30th September, and the head of PR at Vivendi insists that Valve are still working to that date.

It isn't "fore sure" that it's delayed. No one knows.

Just for referemce Fragmaster seems to have mellowed a little and the current geiger now says that no one knows.
I know I'm not deluded about whether its delayed or not. To be honest I wouldn't mind a delay in the least since I'm now in a mad rush to gfet money for upgrades. But I figure thats being greedy.

Vivendi said recently (checking with the journalist WHEN they talked to Vivendi) that the game is delayed. When the publisher says its delayed it prolly is.
The date just verfies when the story was posted, not when it was written. Since newspapers rarely cover gaming news, most likely the article was written a week or two ago and today's a slow news day so they went ahead and published it.

As far as the dates net shops show for release, both GameStop.com and Amazon.com show September 30.

If the decision was 100% final that HL2 would be delayed or it won't be delayed then we wouldn't be having this discussion because they would have released the news. Since they havn't made any official statements yet it tells me that people in Vivendi are split on the decision and they havn't come to an agreement yet as to what to do. "IF" that is true then I suspect that whatever the delay might be is probably not something to do with the game itself not being completed on time but maybe something else.

HL2central said at one time that they suspected the possible delay may be due to the new CD-key check system that was being implemented.
HL2Central has done some investigating and come across reliable information that the HL2 delay is due to the new CD-Key system valve is implementing. Gabe Newell has responded to many emails saying he has not heard anything about the delay, so it is still unknow what is going on. HL2 central has contacted valve and is awaiting reply. All we can confirm right now is vivendi has said HL2 is delayed, however Gabe Newell is disputing that in recent emails.

Bottom line: Vivendi has not actually made up its mind yet as to whether or not HL2 is delayed.

Of course this is all just speculation.
