I wanted to make this post so that people who complain about the HL2 delay can see an example of what a game is like when it's released to early. I bought DX2 for the PC, and man I must say, it has a LOT of bugs (Not to mention it looks like a straight port from the Xbox). People on the DX2 boards are bitching about how buggy this game is. Now you have to ask yourself, would you rather bitch about a delay, or bitch about how buggy HL2 is when it's released? I for one am glad they delayed it; if that means that it will come out with little to no bugs, unlike DX2. I would've been happy if they delayed that game so they could have had more time to work on it. Shame too, I really liked the first one.

even if HL2 was buggy it's still alot better then DX2 so to compare them is retarded. i'd rather have a buggy version of HL2 then a good version of DX2 and a buggy version of HL2 on September 30 then waiting till April 2004 since im now gonna be getting Doom 3 first and now have the money for HL2.or i'd rather have a buggy version of HL2 this christmas then it in April. either way theirs always gonna be bugs espcially since they might redo part of the code so i say just release the damn thing with an old code and release a patch to make the changes. no game comes out without patches just accept it.

Yes

I'm with you all the way. I'd rather play a good game in a few months than an unpolished one now. After rewriting the code that was stolen (and whatever else), maybe they'll have time to perfect the game. It's always that extra month of creativity that makes a game of the year. At least it wasn't cancelled. Hooray!

I've been playing it for a few days now, DX2 that is, and althought it is far from perfect, it's not half-bad either.

I was a fan of the first one, so I might be biased, but I'm having fun with it. The physics are definitely not on par with HL2, but are fun regardless.

It's not realistic, but it fits the game. After all you are a bio-enhanced superhuman, so why couldn't you throw a body 50ft?

I was pissed about the HL2 delay for a long time, but I've grown used to it... (waiting that is.) It better release before April though.

I played the D2 demo..and...

It sucked hardcore.

I will wait for HL2:cheers:

Check out the DE2 forums. Alot of people who hated the demo are in love with the full game.

OMG WTF?!?! THEY ARE DELAYING IT TO REMOVE THE BUGGY?
... BUT I WANTED TO RUN OVER HEADCRABS!

heh... sorry... bad joke

How am I comparing them? The point of the post is that sometimes delays are a GOOD thing. If you can't read through the lines and get that; them I'm sorry.

I didn't like the DX2 demo either, but I DO like the full game. I just wish they would've worked on it a little bit longer to work out all the bugs.

u compared buggy DX2 to a buggy HL2. either way tho a game is still gonna have bugs and patches are still gonna be released. its like trying to get to one end of a circle.

I never played the DX:IW demo but from playing the Xbox version of the full game I have to say that I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I still prefer the original with regard to certain gameplay features(don't like the unified ammo, don't like lack of exp points) but DX:IW is still a very good, open-ended game. Hopefully it'll keep me occupied until HL2 comes out of hiding.

sometimes delays are a GOOD thing.
It's closer to the truth to say delays are ALWAYS a good thing. They don't delay games that are finished.

Hey, DX2 doesn't suck because it's unfinished, believe it or not THIS IS WHAT WARREN SPECTOR WANTED. The fans complain their dumbing it down, and Ion Storm reply with "We're streamlining it." Actually, I haven't been more disappointed with a game for a long time. It's like, have you played through DX1 and thought 'Wow, this feature here is good, it'd be cool if they expanded on it'. Well, don't get your hopes up. Gone are the days of skill-based character development. Instead we've got things like unified ammo? WTF? How much simpler could they make a game with unified ammo. The game is OK, just don't rate it on the series' past merits (ie. the excellence of DX1).

They've simplified it so that they can make more money because they can market it to a larger audience. Hmphj. Just my gold coin's worth.

When will people learn, that they didn't delay it because it was still too buggy!

Premature release can ruin a game (and your sex life). Tribes 2 is a perfect example of that.

i didn't like 2 thing bout DE2:
1st - it ran crappy in my rig (how come fx5600 don't run it nice??)
2nd - the physics were hilarious (and thats a bad thing from my point of view)

You see people are so used to just bashin on topics for no apparent reason that they don't feel like reading what it is even about anymore.

Haha... "comparing police" is what I call them! They're pretty zealous...

(I even wrote an essay recently comparing apples and oranges... literally... turned out pretty damn good, too!)

The true value of a delay can only be truely appreciated by those with patience, and that is a virtue that i am lacking pretty heavily in. While I would like a version with as little bugs as possible, I CAN'T HELP THE FEELING THAT I WANT IT NOW!!!

I DE 2 is basically what HL 2 was in alpha.

its got alot of bugs but a patch is being made for PC users.

( the bad FPS is the main problem i have with it )

its fun, its physics are cool..but HL 2 is just going to be better.

I just wish valve would show some support on our side of the fence.

DX2 is very obviously not polished for a PC release: to the point where there are some things that would have taken 2hours or so to tweak so that they made sense for the PC instead of for the Xbox. The game doesn't even remember your video settings!

Plus I have pretty much THE best rig you can buy, and the game still feels jerky at 640x480: but i don't think it's a FPS issue, just something about the movement code.

I'm fairly disappointed in the engine, and the unified ammo thing is incredibly stupid.

I'd agree that the DE2 demo has some bugs, but what I liked about it the most is that I got the feel of the original Deus Ex. The way things were set up made me feel like it was the same game.

On topic:

THAY ARE TAKING OUT TEH BUGGAY???

DX1 wasnt even released 5 years ago.

And I though they fixed the bug with the video settings not saving in the full version? Dont judge the game on the demo mate.

Unless I'm wrong and it wasnt fixed :x

well i know that dx2 has been delayed for a long time..and im not judging based on the demo, based on the actual game.

this is just me, but i got that jerky feeling too in the DX2 demo, and if you just turn the sensitivity down for the mouse it feels alot better to play.

problem is not with bugs, or grapics, or anything like that, the problem of deus ex 2 sucking is that is just dosent feel right to play. for one you have this gigantic hud right in the middle of the screen, which gets annoying even if you turn down the transpanency. you also have to deal with the slow switch between weapons/items which can be crucial at times. so when you play the game theres all these little problems that add up to make the game suck. maybe its because im playing this as a regular FPS (i dont really have the attention span to deal with RPG or whatever deus ex is) i duno. but from all the hype and screenshots this game coulda been alot better.

on the other hand HL2 looks and feels right when you play.

(i wish DX2 had crouch-jump :()

The MouseLagThreshold in Invisible War is set too high by default. That's what makes the movement feel so laggy and "jerky". By changing it from 75 to 0 in the default.ini you can greatly improve the movement feeling. And yes, the reason why the settings dont save is because the "read-only" box is checked for the default.ini, a fault of ION Storm's and they apologized.

Other than that and some technical bugs causing the game to crash, it really is a good game. Definitely not like the original but who wants to play the same game all over again anyway right? If they just spent a little more time with bug testing and quality assurance and optimized it a little better it truly would have been recieved better by the fans of the original. As far as it goes in comparison to HL2, obviously too early to really say but i think HL2 will be better.
