Half-Life2 Mod - need some manpower.

These threads never fail to entertain me! You've got the usual bunch of scavengers waiting for a new post to feed on, and the dying corpse, trying to come back to life.

Advice to Capm (and others): when you post on this forum, the best thing to do is not to look back at your thread, just post a contact adresse and walk away. Most of the critisism here is unfounded, as no one knows what's going on behind the scenes. People just have a lot of time to lose and post even if they aren't interested in the mod.

well said static. desty im flattered really. i always thought of myself as mroe of a seagull that swoops in with a bottle of lighter fluid and a match.

I don't have anything to apologize for. You people flew off the handle.
You people didn't read a word I said.

1)I never demanded help, what gave you that idea?

2)I never said it was going to be called Descent. (which invalidates your entire arguement about legality and permissions) Perhaps you misconstrued what I wrote. Perhaps I misconstrued your responce to what you misconstrued originally. I'm sorry if that is the case.

3)Requesting help does not make the internal affairs of my team your business. Period. I don't care how much you say it does - it doesn't. When you apply for a job, do you ask your potential boss if he has permission or is qualified to do his job? Hell no, he's gonna look at you funny and you won't get hired - if he doesn't throw you out on the spot.

4)I said in my original post all I wanted to say. If it didn't intrest anyone, then they didn't need apply or reply to the thread. If I had wanted to give out more information, I would have. I was purposely vague on the details of the project because I didn't want to give out alot of information about it. Thats my perrogative.

5)I haven't been an asshole to anyone here, I've responded in a mostly calm manner - whether you read it that way or not is your problem. I'm not pissed, if thats what you think - I find you guys hilarious. If you think nobody will join up because of me being what you call and "asshole" or "ignorant" just know I get enough applications to be choosy about who I let on my team. The project hasn't even started yet, for crying out loud. Chill out.

Anyway - Cya, I've got more important things to tend to.

man your so ignorant i cant even be bothered to go through your post with quates a thrid time. youve pretty much burned this down all by youself.

What the hell is it with the Descent community anyway? You guys are so defensive it hurts. I know in real life a member of Midnight Squadron (though he might have left by now, I don't know, his name was Trackball or Prophet) who's a RABID Descent fanboy and basically will try to eat anyone who even thinks of insulting the game.

Now, it's more than obvious that you have no idea how the modding scene, particularly for Source, works. You need to pull the stick out of your ass and start being a bit more friendly. I understand that our forumites can be less than forgiving a lot of the time - ESPECIALLY dealing with intellectual property issues - but being an asshole doesn't get you anywhere. Even if you don't call the mod Descent, using any names or designs directly from any of the Descent universe games CAN get you in legal trouble and shut the ENTIRE mod down.

In any case, it's a cool idea. I don't like Descent much myself but I've written up some base design for a 360 degree Descent-style FPS flight mod that I'm considering pursuing after I'm finished with my current mod projects, so I can take the interesting elements from Descent and make a game that I enjoy.

It's not what people hear you say, its what people imply from what you say. If people reply to your post and respond in the wrong way, thats not their problem its your problem because you weren't clear enough to begin with.

If you were intentionally being vague then why didn't you state that in your original post? If I were to get fired because I asked my boss if he had the qualifications to be my boss, I wouldn't want to work there in the first place. Job, and especially mod, environments aren't nazi camps where you can't ask your own employees questions without getting the axe. Should this be the type of environment you support, I can almost garuntee people will complain and leave.

If you keep calling your possible employees by "you people" you aren't going to get very far. Hell, anyone can get applications, but how far are you going to get after that? Are you just going to continue being "intentionally vague" with a "no bullshit" attitude? Because thats what everything in this thread told me, whether you want it that way or not. Its your job to be a good communicator. If you were, you certainly wouldn't get that kind of reception.

It seems to me like you took a bad reception to your request and turned it around against the very people who would be interested in the mod, claiming we are the ones being ignorant. Again, thats just what I got out of it.

Well. Looks like this thread got beat to death with a rusty lead pipe. I will leave it at that.
