ok...so I'm bored reading all the negative and whining crap on this forum...so I think it's time for some little light-hearted fun...anyways inspired by the title of another thread, I wondered to myself what the direct translation of "Half-life 2" would be around the world...obviously we don't need the imput from US/UK people sorry about that...anyways:

in Danish:

correct translation "Halveringstid 2"

Direct translation "Halv(t) liv 2"(even worse :p)

(I'm quite happy that we'll keep the American/English title :p )

demie-vie 2 :p in french im also happy they keep half-life :D

Halva Livet 2, in swedish. :p

Sounds like an soapopera or something.. :( Well Well, HALF-LIFE 2 \o/

No, Robert, that is a rough translation of the word. :p

oh yeah...I'm sorry I guess I didn't really do a direct translation of the word, but actually a correct one...eh...I guess you can do both then...heh

Its "Halveringstid 2" in Norwegian too.
Danish and Norwegian are not so far apart you see.....

haa it's Pool-Elu 2 in Estonian.
and Puoli-Elämä 2 in Finnish.

I win with the most retarded game titles.

Im don't know how to speak latin so I just used an online translator but I think in Latin is is this:

dimidium vita 2

In Russian it is

Период полураспада 2

or phonetically

Period poluraspada 2

Dutch (The Netherlands) : helft leven
Dutch (BELGIUM :)) : half leven

Yarım Hayat 2 in turkish, sounds extremely lame.
this is the direct translation tho, it's not the scientific term.

Puoli-elämä 2 (direct translation)
Puoliintumisaika 2 (translation with taking the meaning of "half-life" in account)

In Finnish.

Actually, in Polish it's

Połowiczny Rozpad 2

or

Pół-Trwanie 2

in german:
correctly: Halbwertzeit 2
wordbyword: Halbes-Leben 2

"Media Vida 2" in Spanish, it sounds so funny in spanish, we will keep the english title though....

I bought it trough steam and put it in english, I like to play games in their original languages if possible, you don`t know what a bad/poor translation/voice work can do to a game... :D

remember that there is allways a correct and a word by word translation...the correct one would be the word describing the time an object needs to lose half of it's mass due to it's radiation

Mullinator: Latin translator? PM me the link if you can, it'd be much appreciated as I've found some Roman coins in the backyard- it'd be great to figure out what they say (even though it'll likely be as simple as "date, location, generic statement along lines of "Romans rock").

I really hate it when books/films/games have their titles (or, God forbid, even character names) translated. Let's keep Mr. Petite as he is, Mr. Small can go swim in lava. In other news, subtitles = win, dubbing/awful voice work = ACK OMG I DIE NOOO.

You could really make some money from those coins...good luck with that!

lol like dodgeball was translated to "voll auf die nüsse" in german ^^
(full on the nuts)

Hectic: thanks a lot, but in Cumbria Roman coins are ten a penny...

That said, one guy managed to find a rare crop worth £16,000 :naughty: Of course we've only found three, but we can hope :x

Just wondering, I take it that German/French etc. HL2 players can play the default American version as well, right? Or does Steam keep the alternate content heavily locked down?
