Will there be a half life 2 demo till the final release in sept???

Not before Sept. 30th Gabe has said, likely a few months later.

Don't count on it. Valve wants to entice as many gamers as posible.

Valve should make a demo with a level not in the actual game like the Halflife: uplink demo. I wouldn't mind a remake of uplink in source.

dude, you realize it says you edited the post right?....just dont think you're making him look like a fool when you spelled something wrong.

i don't understand this whole release-before-a-demo thing. from experience, it stinks of "our game is average and therefore can't possibly live up to expectations so we'll let people blow $60 on it before knowing what it's actually like." what advantage is there to not letting people get a taste of the actual game before going out and buying it? seems to me it would entice people more if they knew what they were getting, that is, if half-life 2 is everything it's supposed to be.

I think people already know the basic idea of what there geting.

Yeah, a demo would ruin the whole Half-Life 2 experience.
Here's a saying: I before E, except after C, demo for me, but only after I play Half-Life 2. (Kinda rhymes)

Who cares if you spend your money on something you son't like? The point is that you will give them your money.

Oh yes, entice is a word. Though the question is whether etice is a word, so you post is abosolutely worthless. :)

Oh look, in his last post, Loshadka spelled admit with two d's. Guy, I think we are in the presence of genius.

Damnit! Why do you allways have to show how "smart" you are?!?! I began studing english only 10 months ago, so go to hell!!! :flame:

how would a demo of hl2 ruin the experience? i don't recall playing any pre-release demos that made me go "oh gosh, now i dont like this game anymore because i've played a little bit of it." i don't think they should use a level from the game, but make a level for the demo, maybe to show off the technology. it'd be like seeing one of the videos, only actually controlling what you're looking at. saying that we don't need to test the product out a little bit before shelling out a nonrefundable $50-$60 is like saying we don't need to see any videos because the information they give us in text should be enough, and seeing a video would ruin the surprise.

Who cares if you spend your money on something you son't like? The point is that you will give them your money.
i certainly care. as would the thousands of other fans that would end up spending money on something that might not be that great, but they couldn't find out because there was no pre-release demo.

another benefit to releasing a demo before sep 30 is that it gives them an opportunity to make a final bug check, since it'll be running on thousands of different set-ups. it's a great resource that companies like digital extremes have taken advantage of, and with great success.

Well all i know is that valve said that they are not making a demo before half life 2 comes out. A demo would be nice but i think for me personaly it would be better if i discovered everything at once and not some stuff now and the rest later.

Sure pal. Whatever makes you feel better. :borg:

Re: Demo

The reason VALVe is not making a demo (and the reason many companies don't do this) is that it draws valuable resources away from actually making the game. Especially companies that don't like to spoil the experience of the original game. If they want to make a demo, like Uplink, they'll have to come up with completely original content to avoid spoiling surprises from the original game. I'd much rather have them spend their time and money towards the Real Thing than a teaser that'll just whet my appetite.

Ah... well I'd better add a smiley, or you may not understand that it was sarcasm.

I want a demo so I can tell how it'll run on MY setup, not a reviewers.. mine.

I know, same here. But the Original Half-Life site had MadOnion.com to analyze your computer. I'm sure Half-Life 2 will have that feature.

sarcasm is easy to see in words, really it is. lol maybe those ones

I can see the sense in wanting to see how it runs on your machine, however with the LOD system the question is more likely how advanced a display and sound experience will you get with your system.

Some demos do stop you buying. I played the chaser demo and as a result, didn't buy the game. I was posting on Planetside forums for 2 years and got into the beta test, loved it for 2 days and then saw how shallow the game was. Saved myself £40 and £10 a month but I'd rather have had a good game, here's hoping the updates improve it.

Yet the BF1942 multiplayer demo basically sold me that game.

Conclusions? Depends how good your game is as to wether the demo will do your marketting campaign any good.

mojo, thats exactly what i was thinking. after playing planetside demo i hated it, and the bf1942 demo sold me that game.

i think valve should release a small tech demo though. that level they had at e3 would suffice. i just want to throw around bodies and boxes to keep me from going crazy. ive been messing around with the demos on havok and some oher physics progs for like 2 months, and i need new demos! anyone know of a good game right now that has ragdoll physics i can play? im getting bored.

Valve said they were going to release a HL2 benchmark program before HL2 is released. I think :)

they could make a multiplayer demo as this wont ruin the single player aspect

and if the demo ruins the game, how do the videos not ? we already seen the action, the part with alyx and shit like that so stfu u brainwashed valve fanboys

DEMO====DEMONSTRATION! (spelling)

so they should really let us test it (lets say a couple of weeks or a month)

before release.

i mean even if it is short, and that we can't edit, and it has like screenshots at the end of play, Jus something PLZZZZZ

i wonder how small they could make the demo, i mean they need the full engine i presume, how small do you think Source is?

Wow... simply stunning.

They aren't going to release a multiplayer demo because they obviously don't want to release any details on multiplayer. Play-balancing even a limited selection of weapons to make the demo fun could take quite a bit more time than a single-player demo. As far as ruining the game, Valve has repeatedly said they're keeping their aces up their sleeve, and they're taking special precautions not to reveal anything that would destroy the experience for anyone.

Fanboy? I hardly think Valve infallible, I just defend their decisions when they're the right ones.

I believe it's you who should now "stfu" as you so eloquently put it.

thought there will be a demo after the release

a tech demo like the one shown in the massive 600 mb movie would be nice
jsut to show waht the engine is capable off
doesnt even need to be a hl2 theme, just a techdemo to display the power of the source

i found a WAREZ site that claims they have a beta version of HL2 to download (it's basically the E3 demo but u control gordon instead of gabe like in the steam vids.) but it's one of those "we'll tell u where to get it if u signup for a free p0rn site and confirm it by making u type in the girls name as a password to the text file and none of the passwords work and we just conned u to joining our p0rn site" deals, which blows... i mean everyone has seen the 25 minute video, why don't they just release that playable... it'd make me buy 2 copies of hl2.. lol

I can't believe some people still think theres a demo out there available for download. If there was, we would all be playing it right now :)

ya, y would ne1 believe that VALVe, who just annouced hl2 at the show, wouldn't secure that game, esp. if no1 knew bout it to leak

I'd really like to see valve release a self-contained HL episode as a demo. (probably a while after release). Like Opposing Force and Blue Shift are their own self contained episodes with their own character... I think it would be great if they created a very short episode through a new character's eyes to give another perspective on some of the events in the HL2 story. It wouldn't have to be long, just very interesting, with a few good action set-pieces. (and a strider, of course).

I think something like that would not only keep people who own HL2 happy, with some new interesting stuff to play, but it would also get the interest of people who haven't yet decided if they want to buy it.
