is there anyone making a conversion mod of hl1 with hl2 graphics? i remember hearing about some mods groups doing it but so far nothing, can anyone point out which group or website of a group undertaking this awesome task???

Yep, and it's named Black Mesa: Source. Here is a link, although they haven't showed off anything yet but they will soon.

Also, here is the link to their website and here you can talk about the mod.

cool thanks.....is that the only mod group? also any news of any mods that continue the hl2 story? in the tradition of: HL Redemption?

Too bad there aren't too much eyecandy/concept art on the site for you to get a grip on the look of the project :dozey:

Theres a HL1 Mod and it's sequel that carry on HL1's story called the Xeno Project, it's a pretty masterfully made mod but not as good as Redemption, and a bit short too.

I don't think you'd like to see unfinished media.

What's the legality of this mod? I mean, essentially, they're re-making and out-doing a Valve product (Half-Life: Source, that is) that is open for purchase. And one would assume the mod would be free, no?
So are they infringing on Valve's intellectual property? After all, a Duke Nukem mod for HL2 was recently told to cease and desist.
Will they be able to use all the original sounds, etc?

Valve seems to be ok with us remaking HL1. Gabe said that an HL1 remake would be inevitable.

Redemption was insane. Will never forget that mod.

I'm pretty sure they've been in contact with Valve and they seem to be chill with it.

I hope the remake consist of user-made models and not just brush work.
I hoping for the most part that they use HL2 models.

Well i am in planning for a singleplayer hl2 mod, it doesn't continue the story, i would rather leave valve to that, instead were taking it back a few years and focusing on the beginning of the combine occupation (not the 7 hour war)

sounds good, website? hey also i would like to ask u Samon, how long does it take or will it take to make a singleplayer episode like that, complete with every detail for download and play with hl2?

Where can I find Redemption? Have searched for it but haven't found anything about it.

I hope there's consistency with HL2. Like Eli being the scientist you see by the broken computer wall panel, who eventually asks you to go to the surface. And him also looking like the young Eli looks in his Black Mesa East lab photo (the one with his wife and Alyx as a baby). And Barney as he appears in HL2 (only younger) being the first security guard you see at the start of the intro, banging on the door and holding a flashlight. The rest of the Barneys would have to have different looks. Models like the vortigaunts can be taken directly from HL2. This sort of attention to detail would really do the team responsible for the mod proud and would make me love HL afresh all over again.

Why thankyou :)

As previously mentioned, the absence of media from the site is due to the fact that we do not wish to release our first media images, in WIP status. We'd like to show off our mod as best we can, hence why we are waiting for a few final bits to show.

It would be pretty stupid of VALVe to stop it anyway, since it is on their own game engine and you need to buy HL2 before you can use it :)

Use another game engine, then VALVe would pull it.

ive never played half-life source. Is it really so bad that people would spend time making an exact copy of it?
