what happened to the links directly into the HL2 general discussion on the front page, now its just a huge advertisment.

yes, what is up with the advertising???!!!!

dont get me wrong, i love HL2.net, but why does it have to be tainted with advertisements? how much money does a few advertisements make? and please forgive me if the money is going toward hl2.net, but if not i am quite annoyed with this change!

It takes a lot of time and money to provide this site for everyone amd all of the cost so far has come straight out of Munro's pocket. We're luck in the sense we don't have as many costs as other sites (our hosting is free at the moment) but all the Google ads were doing were barely covering costs.

This new advertising will nicely cover costs and ensure we're able to have scope for expansion. Munro isn't driving around in a Porche and at the moment all the other staff here are still working voluntarily. Any new revenue will go to make sure we can keep this place running and to get it growing even further.

sticky this chris, your going to get more complaints, but I couldent agree with you more.

The think about the ads I hate most is that they slow the site down.

Or is that just the massive amounts of people coming here right before the release? :p

One thing we will point out is that the media we have at the moment sucks. Our advertising agents are contacting companies directly so the quality of the ads will improve and you guys might actually see some products on there that you'd be interested in.

Try to click the links whenever you can. I hate to say it, but it really will help us to support you guys in the future :)

What other costs then hosting and the forum licence do you guys have?
