Courtesy of Valve Software we have 2 copies of Left 4 Dead to give away for the best two entries for our competition...[br]
Design your own special infected boss!​
[br]You can design your special infected using image editing software (like photoshop) or sketch a highly detailed drawing, scan and send it to us. Your creation must have a name and an explanation of how it would be a pain in the side of the 4 survivors![br]

I own the game but I'd love to enter anyway.
 
I'd totally do this if I had any skill at drawing or with photoshop.

Yes, they'll get an extra copy of Left 4 Dead in which they can either keep it or gift it to somebody.
 
I don't have L4D, and I got a graphics tablet for my birthday! THIS WAS DESTINY!

Time to dig up the old sourceworld pics for ideas methinks. Where's TDE when I need him...
 
Why give L4D to people who probably already have L4D if they're competing in this competition!?

I don't have the game so I know nothing about going about entering. Yet if I had the game I wouldn't really care about winning another copy.

I dunno, seems a bit paradoxical.

What do you think would be a good prize?
 
Well as you can see, we used the charger in the banner image. Although I'm not directly asking people to create an infected boss for L4D2...since we don't know the other new bosses yet, I thought it would be a fun idea to get people thinking about some of the new bosses on the way!

Maybe L4D2 interests people, but they never played L4D1 and now could be the chance!

Also rumour has it, that the best entries I will send on to Chet to get his thoughts on how good he thinks they are.


Edit: Escape...no one can pre-order L4D2 right now, if you could it would be the prize!

Designing freaks is just how we roll! ;D

My brother and I have already starting designing our boss. This should be semi-easy for us because he's got the ideas, and I've got the tablet skill! I've also been doing reference sheets for my characters(Many havn't yet been put into the gallery, though.) - gallery can be found here. So names and background stories will be no problem at all!
Never played L4D, anyways. But I figured if I win, I'll give it to my brother.
One crucial question, though; Can the zombies be animals? And just how far 'out there' can we be? Because I don't want to create anything too far from an actual zombie-like creature... thing.:imu:

In response to your question, I think they can only be mutated humans. All of the Special Infected are humans, but they've undergone extreme physical changes due to the infection that has been spread.

Ah, darn... Alright, then. Could I still post a reference sheet of some of my more animalistic zombies for possible future ideas? *Spread the infection, humans are so lame! :LOL:
-I've got more infectious animal ideas than I do for us wretched humans. :p
 
Hello there!

Good question, we are hoping to see all sorts of strange creations in this competition, but it would be within your interest to design something which is most feasible and would actually work in L4D or L4D2. That will be another judging criteria we will look out for...so for example, a zombie giraffe isn't going to work :) I would say other animals would be allowed (dogs, gorillas etc) but we could end up with too much ambiguity. So essentially go for humanoid zombie infected, but feel free to go as crazy as you like with your ideas.

Note as we requested, your entry will be linked with your forum account. So please send just the one entry so we know which one is the main design you put forward. Cheers and good luck.
 
ive got a good idea for this and i only ever bought l4d on the xbox (and have since traded it in) so i think i'll sketch something up and enter later this afternoon.
 
Cmon PoS, that isn't unreasonable whatsoever, don't make me seem like an ogre. You know how competitions like this work :)

I'm referring to quality, not quantity. It seems very childish to me to accuse some one of having certain motives when you really know very little about them and have no cause to think they feel that way.
 
I've been reading this forum since mid 2007 which is just after when you joined so I've read a lot of your posts and I know quite a bit about your internet personality. You bash newbies whenever the opportunity arises in, what it seems, some weird attempt at scoring points with the veteran members of this forum so this has happened before.

And you're not talking about post quality, you're talking about join dates and quantity. Otherwise I'd like to see your list of people who you think belong in this "community" because there are some people (a minority) that only flood the forum with postcount + 1 nonsensical posts and they might have thousands of posts while there are people only have a few hundred posts (or even less than that) but all of which contain quality. Yet I'd be willing to bet that you'd pick the "postcount + 1" people over the quality posters any day as members of the "community". Or am I wrong?

Anyway, we're going off topic here so let's get back on topic after this.

From some of the entries we've had so far, I would just like to clarify...make sure you include details of how your infected boss will attack the survivors, don't just provide a design & background!

This seems interesting, but all my friends have L4D so it'd be kind of pointless for me to enter.

If you're referring to barbar and dabom, then you are very right. I have abused them, and not for having a low postcount, but posting idiotic and annoying things. Perhaps they just haven't found their niche in our community or they just don't get what we're all about yet. Maybe they never will. But you'll find most every one else did too. We may have been pointlessly rude and mean, but hey, we did it. Shem has posted a handful of stupid things and been abused by the forum in general. Three people with under 1000 post counts that I do like: tacoeater, jet porkins, and slug advisor (he may have over 1000 by now). There are several people with high postcounts that I don't really care for, but they are accepted members of our community and I respect them. Once again, making up my motives is a nice way of justifying your completely pre-emptive opinions on me. This is pretty much a think and write post so it's not very well formed, but I feel it's good for now.
