Halo 2 has a higher ranking than Hl2 and GTA:SA

I got bored of it very quickly, its the same thing the whole way through the ****ing game, blast hordes of aliens, yawn, I need something a little more satisfying and little more intelligent to hold my interest, like Half Life.

Oh come on, Half-Life isn't any more intelligent :/ (I love Half-Life btw - but give credit where it's due)

It doesn't sound like you played on Legendary (I hate to keep repeating myself - but it makes all the difference in the world)

I agree - on easier settings Halo can be a rather boring journey.

It still doesn't change the fact that C fps are easy in comparison. So, if like me, challenge is what you like - Halo/Halo 2 is the only real choice.

I've never said Halo or Halo 2 wont be fun. I agree, Halo is fun. I also agree that Halo 2 will be fun. I just don't agree that Halo 2 will be better than HL2.
Warbie, have you ever played Morrowind. Fun game.
Halo has been converted to a PC Game, thus you just said in essence:

Halo is the only single player shooter i've played that, at times, has offered the challenge/compulsion that online play can provide.

and

Halo's singleplayer has not offered, at times, the challenge/compulsion that online play can provide.

(I get where your coming from, im being stupid..don't quote it).

But morrowind, that game makes me feel that, the world is somewhat bigger than me. Playing on 0 to 100 can be down right challenging. Going into a temple, without my deadra sword, hoping no ghosts are aruond the corner, and at the same time hoping I will find a great treasure. Suspense, challenge, and the motive to try new things like kill someone while at the same time..being scared on what could happen if someone seen you. Morrowind is a game that offers....alot to me. More than alot of online games have ever offered.

I enjoy HL's singleplayer as the same reason I enjoy Co-Op in HL maps with Sven-Coop, because I love to kill some alien mofo's. HL is a game where you can lay back and just start killing everything. It's...."soothing", and i can understand why people don't like it. While on hard, HL takes a little more patience...
(this is also the one area that every pc fps i've played has yet to achieve)
For me, Pc Games achived that a long time ago. Maybe someday pc games will offer you what you are looking for in a single\multi player game.

There really aren't that many (just don't tell the Halo haters ;))

Like I said the entire fusion core thing was a bit much.

Then the library. This deserves its own paragraph. The person who thought it was a good idea to put a glass floor where you can fall to death deserves to be kicked in the groin. That was compounded because of you were being attacked from all sides and occasionally you would accidently shoot out the glass. That was frustrated the living daylights out of me.

One of the last segments when you are on the human ship was repetitive as well. I also found the part where you discovered the flood to be, to a lesser extent, repetitive as well.

You are looking at a good chunk of the game there.

2 parts of 2 levels.

continue please. apparently the whole game is cut and paste.

I'm only talking single player FPS here. In other genres PC games have provided everything I could want - especially multiplayer (have been playing in various leagues and ladders for years now)

I think the reason most people see Halo as repetitive, is because you play through the game once, and then you have to reverse all the way back

I agree with blahblahblah - espeically concerning Library (which is god awful lol)

But like destrukt said - this isn't actually much of the game at all, and far from a 'good chunk'. The instances of 'cut and paste' in Halo are bad - but there really aren't that many.

For a single player FPS, well...morrowind can be played in First Person, though it isn't a shooter..has provided everything for me. HL has to.

Diffence in opinions. I have long felt PC FPS have reached perfection long ago. I have never felt that way with consoles. I've tried really hard to enjoy consoles, but I don't find them nearly as fun as games on the PC.

Go back and play the control room levels...I swear, they used the same bloody room and twisty corridor a good 15 times in a row...I also remember them using the same bridge 3 or so times...also, the opening levels in the spaceship was just identical corridor after corridor, as was most of the other space ship (where you rescue keyes, can't remember it's name), the same purple corridors over and over...and over...while each level was pretty unique, the levels in themselves was mostly the same area over and over, with a bit of a twist, or none at all...

ok, you made a few more places.

now, tell me of all hte original halflife settings.

a lab ? the desert ? a cliff ? on top of a base ? inside some buildings ? vents ?

please help me.

I'm not trying to say HL1 wasn't repetitive or unoriginal in areas (i don't think anyone is arguing with you about that, why mention it?)...but some of Halo's level design was just unforgivably lazy...either that, or they really didn't have enough time to vary things up within levels...honestly, the same room and corridor over and over and over? It took up a good third of the level for christ's sakes...

3 brilliant games indeed.
when there's competition, we all win.
only fanboys miss out. *cough* mithrander

k, i understand

but it's just peopel are saying this, than they look @ halflife and bam, their own comments smack them in the face like the repetition. they try to make it sound like halflife takes you on a journey from a sunny beach, to the other side of the galaxy, to the middle of the frozen polar caps etc. when it doesn't quite frankly :dozey:

Even though Half-Life isn't really original at all, the gameplay was still fantastic. Which is the same reason many people can still overlook the flaws that Halo had.

so in a sense, they are both the same.

they are great games, with good graphics [at the time of their release], they have good gameplay, good storylines, good multiplayer and they both have flaws, many of which have been fixed in their sequels. they also both have innovative and promising sequels.

Certain Halo levels were identical to each other. They made no attempts to differentiate the levels with props or anything. Additionally, certain Halo levels were laid out the exact same way. This wasn't a simple case of wandering around an office complex with the identical rooms but with a changing map layout. I wonder what they reaction would have been to Halo's levels if they were released as a mod for a game.

With Half-Life, at least they added some miscellaneous props and didn't copy and paste the same level design as Halo. I'm no Half-Life fanboy, I absolutely hated the jumping puzzles in half-life. I hope jumping puzzles burn in hell with Half-Life 2.

There is a difference between repetitive and 'i'm going to kick my screen because this game is so repetitive'. Certain parts of Halo fall into the later part of that category.

With that said, I still enjoyed Halo. In fact, I enjoyed it more on the PC, to be honest. Regardless of the system I played it on, it still was an above average game. I would have rated the original Halo as a 8.5. Great, but not spectacular or revolutionary like everybody says.

Warbie...you are the Halo defender. Cheers.

Although I enjoyed HL more than Halo, calling it repetetive is just like calling every FPS available repetetive. That and the gamepad argument are so infuriating.....it's absurd. If you can't play a FPS on the XBox gamepad.....hmmmm. I've seen people absolutly dominate a keyboard and mouse on a pad.....although I'm not one of them.....

Halo is a fantastic game and I expect more of the same from Halo 2, although I'll reserve judgement until I actually play it.

I agree with you, Halo is great and the fact that its on a gamepad doesnt make that much of a difference, and is a pretty weak argument.

I remeber Quake 2 vs. Unreal flame wars in the year 1998 but they were both PC games and they ended with the arrival of Half-Life.

Now this one with HL2vsH2 is more far out than ever before. The games were made for different platforms, they haven't even come out yet but the war of flaming is already getting epic proportions.

I plan to get all 3 games and not punish myself just because I think one game is over-hyped.

It's fishy... I say, Microsoft boosted those ratings with a couple of bucks. It's a good game, but that good (judging by the words of Gamespot it should have gotten 9.0 or 9.1, but it got 9.4!).

HL2 is not even on the list yet (doesn't have enough reviews yet). The only thing HL2 has on that Website is the User ranking and it is beating Halo 2 ass. But that is completely worthless too.

Can this shit just stop? Seriously. I think that all the HL2 and H2 fanboys should all meet up in real life and compare penis sizes if they really want to feel superior over each other. At least that way everybody else could be spared this crap.

The only thing good about half life2 is the story line, and the mods that people will make. Gta sa and halo 2 are better games because they are easier to play multiplayer. Even though single play might suck dick, the replay value of the multiplayer will make up for it.

Inorder to play multi player on hl2 (if its availible) is through steam or some mod, and steam blows ass hardcore. exspecially for dial up users.

as with halo 2, you can just invite your friends over, and play up to 16 people in your own house, no net connection required.

Another good thing about console games= you dont have to go out and buy a $800+ computer just to play them. I suppose you could spend about that much getting setup for 16 players, but again, no net connection required for good mplayer fun. Which is great for alot of people.

I will be playing both halo 2 and gta sa for far longer then half life 2.

all of those reviews are almost from xbox only sources

7 more days, 7 more days, 7 more days, 7 more days, 7 more days, 7 more days, 7 more days, 7 more days,

Bottom line is halo 2 had 1.5 million preorders 3 weeks before release (who knows how much it has incrased). Now hl2 didnt get as much preorders before it was delayed (nice job vault :frown: )

I love both games but this is really the bottom line.

Thats a pretty weak argument. The reason it got so many pre-orders was because of Microsoft's PR. Thats it. And its VALVE not Vault

As you know, I'm usually one to argue in the Half-Life 2 vs. Halo 2 threads, especially recently. Then today, I was sitting quietly watching some TV and it hit me like a train: I'm lucky enough to play both games. Why I, or anyone else, wants to sit in front of a computer screen and argue which game uses normal mapping and which game doesn't have localization damage completely eludes me now.

Now I'm not saying that I now think Halo 2 is better or Half-Life 2 is better. I realized that within a few weeks, we will have both and I can play both and decide for myself.

Why people want to sit and argue and argue and argue about what this game has and what this game doesn't have is crazy. It's peoples opinion (see bottom of post for those who do not understand what this means) and no matter what you say or how you say it, you're not gonna change anyones minds or viewpoints. Bottom Line.

So why? Why waste precious time? If someone says Halo 2 or Half-Life 2 sucks, why argue? Does it offend you? Why?

Anyway, I'm getting Halo 2 tomorrow. I'll be getting Half-Life 2 in a couple of weeks. Which will be better? I don't know! But who cares?! I'm getting Halo 2 and Half-Life 2!!!

And remember kids: If you win a flame war on the internet, you're still a loser.
