This article at Gamespot has some fresh news about Halo 2's imminent release on the PC. There is a lot of negative feedback around here about Halo 2 but the article possibly implied some things I hadn't thought of previously.

It's not DX10. News to me - I originally thought it was.
It's Vista only. Does this mean that Microsoft will get Vista up to a decent level of driver support before too long? It'd be a bad move to release one of their flagship games on a system that's got some issues with games.
Mouse and gamepad playing. Weird - do you think that'd be a better way to get around in a FPS?

It kinda pisses me off, no DX10, not that I have a DX10 card but it should at least have the capability for when I do get the card. I really don't care about the mouse and gamepad thing, nothing will ever replace the keyboard/mouse combo. And only vista, not that it's new news but I was kinda hoping MS didn't lose anymore brain cells and reconsidered to the least.

Halo 2 isn't exactly the type of port you'd want to use as a flagship example of DX10's capability.

If it's not DX10 then why make it Vista only... oh wait this is Microsoft we are talking about here.

Looks stupider and stupider.

They'll be pushing the 360's controller compatability with windows more than likely.

Besides, it's nice to have that option. So, what new besides DX10 does Vista offer? It would have to be something surely, if H2 can run on DX9 but not XP.

Nup, they're just bumping Vista sales with an OS specific launch AFAIK.

Or any business with a clue.

I love how you people berate MS for normal business tactics, it's amazing how whenever MS does something it's magically worse.

Also, Halo2 will use Games for Windows, Live, which will be Vista only as far as I'm aware.

Just watched the new vids on Gametrailers.com

God, this game looks like ass. Hell, even STALKER looks better.

I saw this coming. businesses want to sell their newest product. So why not make Halo2 for Vista only? Well, looks like Halo is going to sell worse than Halo for PC...which I never thought could happen!!

I cant believe they're charging over $200 for Halo 2 ...i mean it's not even dx10 and looks like a game that's 3 years old. It should come bundled free with Vista not sold for $49.99 to only a select few gamers. There is zero incentive to play this game for a pc gamer; send me $100 and I'll send you my xbox and copy of halo 2, dont waste your money buying vista just to play this game (it's not even that great imho). Earth to microsoft: Halo 2 on pc is NOT the killer app you're looking for ..had it been Gears of War or some other newish xbox360 game you might have gotten us potential vista adopters excited ...but Halo 2? come on

I'll have to side with Sterny on this one. If it was GoW, I would...actually consider Vista a little bit more.

no stalker is a new game ..it's just took 6 years to make it so it seems like an old game

Wait no DX10 but it is still Vista only???

That got to me too, there has never has been such a contradictory statement in my life. Bush's speech impediment comes a close second, with Donald Rumsfeld trailing closely behind.

But looking further into the article, the game has several features that are intwined with Vista

According to Clowes, that's because the game takes advantage of many Vista-only features, such as rapid install. When you first insert the Halo 2 disc into your PC, you won't have to install the game like you traditionally would a PC game.

i watch the videos and its just stupid. looks no different at all. its pointless for pc which wont be the selling point of a pc game. halo is a console selling game. Microsoft just doesn't get that. Also since they have support for 360 controllers then there is no difference.

I won't be getting this. Ever.

Nor me. Hated the single player. Never liked the MP maps. They raped blood gulch and left it for dead.

The game is what, 3 years old now? No way I would class it as a killer app. GoW or PGR/Forza would have me very interested. But no, they give us crappy old Halo 2. Their loss :)

I'll be getting it, but equally I can wait until I've got a Vista enabled PC (or for someone to work out that non-vista installation boils down to a single line in an ini on the disc. "dubiousmarketingploy_1"). Waited three years anyway, can wait a few more.

Well that certainly puts a damper on things. I've been itching to give it a go and wouldn't mind dropping an L note on it, but ~200? We'll see what the market will bear, but I'll put this off for a while.
