Halo 2 : Windows Vista vs XBOX

so in others it's sharper looking ..big whoppdeedoo ..Microsoft really dropped the ball on this one ..the first vista exclusive, Microsoft's first big lead in into Windows live and there's virtually no difference between it and the original that came out 3 years ago besides eye candy? you're really selling us on Windows Live with this game that's for sure :upstare: ..oh and wouldnt Halo 2 been the perfect showcase for cross platform play? You could give this game away and I still wouldnt be interested

I'm with stern on this. Halo is so important for ms, why couldn't they have improved it much more, I mean it took them so long to port it and this is the only thing the got to show for it.
It's like most of the time was spent on trying to figure out how to prevent people from hacking it and porting it to xp.

TBH gamespot's past screenshot comparisons have been absolute shambles. This one is no different.

Ancient game. Who gives a shit?

You know what's great about this? The improvement between xbox Halo 2 and Vista Halo 2 is more significant than the improvement between Halo 2 and Halo 3.

I'm getting it.

Game looks fine. Not the leader of the pack by any mean, but it's certainly good enough and I will definitely pick it up.

Also, they said they won't give it cross-platform because the Xbox version was never tuned to play against PC players, and they would have to tweak a lot of things in the console verison, which would potentially introduce a LOT more problems than if they let it be PC only for now.

Halo2 is a great game... I can't wait for the custom map action! :D

pc to pc multiplayer is good enough, its what I expected from the beginning, pc vs console would've just been a bonus (hoping a configurable one). And what about that whole silver and gold package thing? Their terms changed?

yes but why would pc gamers care?
I am a console gamer and I don't care. :D

I never understood this at all. Anyone who wanted to play this has played it to death by now anyway. And why this would be a Vista-exclusive when the graphical upgrades still make it look old as sin. A better idea would have been to cross-develop Halo 3 for the 360 and Games For Windows. To me that would make infinitely more sense but oh well.

Halo is to Bill Gates as Star Wars is to George Lucas. They both need to lay off their cash cows' teats for a while! Give 'em a rest already!! They'll be all dried out and cracked and no one wants to suckle that!!!

ewww suckling on dry crusty teats! now there's an image no amount of alcohol will burn away :O

It's just for Vista (not XP) but no DX10? Interesting..
Not like it would change the game though.

OT,but did you guys hear some people re getting ready to sue Nvidia because the drivers for vista are so horrid.

Hahaha! That was the whole point: making sure everyone knows that this is a gross misuse of company hands (and teats).

I don't recommend it mate. Maybe for the multiplayer, but defenatly not for the singleplayer.

I wont be getting this.
1) I hated it on the xbox
2) I dont have vista and wont have for some time

you don't have to buy vista if you get my drift (hint: its the internet)

I gave a shit till they said it was Vista Exclusive and STILL without coop.

They did improve the graphics a bit, but I think it's mainly a resolution change. None of these comparisons looked "revamped" to me, but instead it was just a boost in resolution. Microsoft, imo, is really screwing itself over. It's using a game to boast a new OS, or "new console" if you will. There are always SPECTACULAR games going out for the new console to grab buyers. PC gamers =/= Halo fanboys. In turn, Microsoft is going to lose sales because a lot of people haven't made the switch to Vista. And until there's some encouragement to switch, like a stellar game that supports DX10, people won't.

I was actually expecting about that much as far as graphics improvement TBH.

Where they screwed up was once again under-estimating the average lemming on the internets.

So you guys are making a fuss because it looks worse on a 733mhz Celeron with a Geforce2 graphics chipset than it does on your average vista-capable PC of today?

Halo 2 is an XBOX title ... not a 360 title.

Anyone else think it looks worse on PC? Console games (up till now) have low resolutions and gobs of anti-aliasing for a reason.

Bah, I can hardly see (or care about) the graphical improvements they made in Halo 2 for Vista. Sticking to the Xbox version is definately a better idea.

it's funny. . i just played Halo2 and the graphics weren't nearly that blurry or low res. . .This feels more and more like a "hey gamespot, promote halo2 *hands money*" kind of thing than a real comparison. . .come on, the screenies of the Xbox version look like someone took a 3 megapixel camera and took a picture of his tv. . .that and they'd have to use special hardware to capture the screens and that would be an instant degrading in quality. . . not to mention they didn't even bother trying it out on a 360 with 1080i HD. . .

i don't mean to sound like a fanboy, i just hate hate lowsy marketing schemes. . .or any marketing scheme for that matter. ..

I'm not really annoyed that they didn't fix the graphics, that's to be expected. What annoys me is they made it Vista exclusive for no good reason whatsoever (well, no good reason for the consumer at least).

Not like it matters much. I was about as likely to buy Barbie Horse Adventure as I was Halo 2.

They probably just expanded some screencaps of Halo 2 on Xbox. Comparing a Warthog fit into a 100x100 pixel square versus a Warthog in a 600x600 square isn't really fair.

M M M Monster Fail! Fail! Fail! Fail!

PC FPS to Console = Good
Console FPS to PC = Laughable and Moronic

Heh, I'm trying to think of a good example, but I'm coming up blank...
