Halo 3 Breaks Records

Valve never advertise on TV which automatically means that it is beaten by Halo 3 in terms of sales. :/

Hooray for gaming!! Too bad games like Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, the upcoming Assassin's Creed, and many more like them don't get so much of a cut of the marketing/advertising budget. These are the games that really deserve to get all that money thrown at them imho....

I saw a trailer for HL2 on TV before it came out.

Anyway, why do people buy Halo 3? I thought Halo 2 sucked donkey balls.

I must admit ive seen more of the Halo 3 trailer on tv (late at night though) than i ever saw of the HL2 one. I only ever saw the HL2 trailer on tv once, Halo 3 a good half-dozen times.

It was even on the bloody Channel 5 news here in the UK one evening.

Mainly because Halo 3 does advertising in all countries and on all planets and is a FPS made for the 360.

My sentiments exactly.

I'm really conflicted about this news. On one hand, records like this just further establish video games as legitimate entertainment. On the other hand... Come on, there are so many ****ing better games than Halo that deserve to be the poster children of such events.

Just think of it as pop music part deux.

valve can't even come close to the marketing machine that is microsoft
personally, i like it better that way
too much hype can be a turnoff

I could not imagine a more undeserving title.

Well...maybe daikatana.

Seriously Microsoft/bungie probably blew their profits with the cost of all the advertising for Halo 3, the games not so important at the domination of the X360 as the console king.

I only ever saw one advert for Halo 3, and I wasn't even avoiding it on purpose. YOU FAIL, MICROSOFT.

I found their advert campaign for Halo 3 to be quite genius actually. It makes me at least want to know what happens, even though I don't care to actually play the game or even download bits of video. Thus far I have seen no footage (that I can recall) and I have no desire to.

Because they dont think it sucks donkey balls
No, I don't meant I thought it sucked donkey balls (I never played it), I thought the general opinion was that it sucked above mentioned balls.

Step 1. Make shooter with lots of explosions and a semi decent MP component.
Step 2. Market the product everywhere you possibly can.
Step 3. Release the product.

Halo just happens to be the game they chose. MS could easily market any other Xbox/game for windows game in the same light and get just as much attention.

plus PC gamers are few and far between due to the fact that joe six pack doesn't know how to upgrade a video card...you would be suprised how many people are clueless about that kind of stuff

it wasnt just the single best selling video game in history ..but it's the biggest selling entertainmnet product ever in a single day ..in comparison it beat the box office reciepts of Spiderman, on opening weekend, the entire weekend ..even dvd sales came nowhere near it ..now it's unclear whether they meant units sold or money made because seeing as how it retails for $69.95 and tickets to a movie costs much less

money made.... 179million...;)

yup:

Variety said:
Microsoft boasted that the figure makes "Halo 3" "the biggest entertainment launch in history." Comparisons to other media are tough, of course, since a copy of "Halo 3" typically costs $60 and is meant to be enjoyed for months or even years, while the average movie ticket cost $6.55 last year, but was good for about two hours of entertainment.

There's no denying, however, that even compared to the opening weekends this year's other big threequels like "Spider-Man 3" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "Halo 3" generated a massive amount of consumer spending.

pr spin

I doubt it, if only because of Steam and pre-loading.

or the fact that there are about twenty times the number of thickheaded console fanboys as there are PC gamers in general :p

Congrats for helping the video game industry!

FU for not being Half-Life :p
