IGN says so

Not that I really care, but it sure does make me wonder what's taking up so much space. Maybe Microsoft really should have used an HD format.

Also, this is one of the most laughable sentences ever -

While developers on both sides have argued for or against the need for more than 9GB of available space to produce a game, a little bit of credence was given to Sony's claims with the release of the official box art of the Collector's Edition of Halo 3, expected to be amongst the most technologically complex games of this generation of gaming.

LOL, really? That's a helluva big statement when you take into account games like Mass Effect, Crysis, Bioshock, Alan Wake, etc.

Man, I remember when Syphon Filter 2 came on two discs.

Those were the days.

The extra disc is probably mostly bonus content like documentaries and interviews and such. GoW2 was 2 discs also you will recall...but the second disc was mostly stuff like I just mentioned. FF12 the same. Honestly, by the time a game releases I don't give a damn about the interviews and such because I have grown so weary of watching them all leading up to the game's launch!! Just gimme the game damnit!

But yeah, an HD format will be an extremely big deal in a couple of years I bet...maybe a big oversight....

Blue Dragon is already coming out on 3 discs. Big whoop.

Honestly though, who are these people who really care? I'd rather save a couple hundred and just put up with the gruelling task of ejecting and inserting a disc every now and again.

I just read that the entire first disc is almost on rails with nary a side-quest or bit of free-roaming. Big disappointment imho.

Obviously, if people had to choose, they would choose never to have to switch discs. That said, yeah, right now its all about the money and saving some cash is worth it for a little disc swapping for many folks--as long as its not during multiplayer.

I am thinking seriously about getting a 360 but the extra $100 for wireless is making me sick to death. Now my costs have gone up to at least $500 for the premium. Ick. Almost as painful for my wallet as my PS3 purchase. :O

Syphon Filter 2 was a great, great game.

I hope they make it so MP is on one disk and SP is on the other, as far as Halo 3 is concerned.

MP was ****ing epic. Rushing for the M79, headshotting each other across the map, the hilarious 'roll' manouvre, the knife that killed about two seconds after you slashed with it...

Syphon Filter > Halo 3. Forget your PS3 and your Xbox 720. Buy an old PS1 and a copy of Syphon Filter 2.

I think I remenber syphon filter

since the game have a vertical split screen it was hard to spot the other one

I barely remenber it

Syphon Filter was epic!! One of the best game on the ps1. Ah...I feel old.

You guys are forgetting the best part - the feckin TAZER! :D

So many good, deep fried memories.

/me sits with tazer on guy for 30 mins while he burns.

Those were the days :D

OK, Frankie just said here tthat the second disc is bonus stuff.

?Yeah, but Amazon shows the collector?s edition has three discs, and two of them are game discs,? says Claude.

Sure enough, I go to Amazon and there it is, in full color. So, first off, let me clear it up for you:

The Collector?s Edition picture erroneously shows that it ships with a Bonus Content disc and a Game Two disc. Incorrect. It?s a mistake at MS? end and we?re updating retailers with the correct image. The ?Game Disc 2? shown in the art actually refers to an interactive Bonus Content disc. It?s an Xbox ?executable? (think of it like a menu-driven disc, similar to the Official Xbox Magazine cover disc) and internally, has always been referred to as ?Game Disc 2? because it has to go through the same certification process as Halo 3 itself. That was somehow communicated to MS retail marketing verbatim. Hence the error. No big deal.

The Legendary Edition comes with two extra discs. The ?executable? interactive disc listed above, and a Bonus Content DVD ? the one pictured incorrectly with the Collector?s Edition. Confused? No wonder.

The upside of that is the ?Game Disc 2? itself. Because it?s an Xbox 360 disc and not a DVD, almost all of the content it contains is in hi-def (if your TV supports it). And some of the content is pretty spectacular. Now to clarify: Both premium editions, Collector?s and Legendary, come with the interactive disc. Only Legendary comes with the DVD.

The Collector?s edition includes a bound ?art book? called the Bestiarum ? a guide to the species and civilizations of the Halo Universe. Legendary Edition purchasers get an expanded multimedia version of the same material, with far more art and illustration, most of which has never been seen before and won?t appear anywhere else.[/B] And that?s built into the DVD Bonus Disc along with other materials.

Legendary also features an exclusive printed collection of storyboards from the game cinematics, by Bungie?s own Lee Wilson.

So here?s the real breakdown for each edition and remember, ALL of these items are subject to change or replacement.

Regular Vanilla Edition:

Includes Halo 3 for Xbox 360 and a manual. And obviously hours, days, weeks and months of hi-intensity Halo joy.

Halo 3 Collector?s Edition:

Collectible Metal Case
Halo 3 for Xbox 360
Bestiarum: A hard cover, bound collection of information and art covering the species, cultures and civilizations of Halo 3.
On the Interactive Xbox 360 Bonus disc (included in both Collector?s and Legendary editions):
Hi-Def Halo: Bungie?s graphics and audio engineers have created a simple to use, Halo-themed calibration tool to make the most of your Home Theater experience.
Art Attack: Exclusive Halo 3 Gamer Pics and Dashboard theme, a vast gallery of concept and production art (complete with musical accompaniment) and a fully playable version of a classic Halo-themed mini-game.
Featurettes: A series of short films covering a range of subjects, from making your Network play nice with Multiplayer, to the challenges of building the biggest Halo ever.

Halo 3 Legendary Edition:

Inside the Halo 3: Legendary Edition

Fully sculpted Spartan helmet: The most collectible piece of Halo merchandise ever conceived. An accurate model of the Spartan Mjolnir Mark VI helmet.
Halo 3 for Xbox 360
Storyboard Collection: Exclusive selection of storyboard art from Halo 3's cinematics.
Legendary Disc: Found only in the Halo 3: Legendary Edition, this Disc is a DVD disc that will play in your 360 or on any DVD player and features a wealth of rich, unique and exclusive content. Contents include:
Halo Cinematics Reloaded ? completely remastered, hi-res versions of the Halo and Halo 2 cinematics with 5.1 audio and complete with optional ?Director?s Commentary? track featuring Marty O?Donnell, Joseph Staten and Jason Jones.
Bestiarum ? an expanded digital guide to the creatures, cultures and worlds of Halo 3, with art and assets exclusive to this interactive edition.
The Cortana Chronicles ? Jen Taylor, the voice of Cortana, takes us on a tour of the worldwide Halo fan community ,where she meets Halo fanatics from near and far, obscure and famous alike.
Plus: All-new, exclusive Machinima episodes from Red Vs. Blue and This Spartan Life and a novel ?mockumentary? voiced by Sgt. Johnson himself, David Scully.

Man, Syphon Filter freaking rocked, when I bought it I got this little silver torch which said Syphon Filter on it.

I got all the girls.

Anyway, the SP was good and split-screen MP was fun as hell despite how basic it was and how often each match just ended up with us not moving the crosshair vertically since it was at perfect headshot height.

A lot of fun weapons like said taser and the grenade launcher.

But yeah, false story.

The Bungie guys are so cocky and ****ing annoying. "BEST TECH EVER" LMFAO what a joke comment.

No, actually that comment is courtesy of IGN.

*golf clap*

Was it a myth that if you held it on for long enough, the people would explode? Or did that actually happen?

Was it a myth that if you held it on for long enough, the people would explode? Or did that actually happen?

no I dont think so

I used to practically burn up every enemy sometimes

Then they brought out the PS2 sequel version, and it was shit.

Rhoemer was the arch-enemy in SF1, reappearing in the flashbackfull SF3. I seem to remember each game ended with that scary Russian woman laughing...

I never got the PS2 one because I heard it wass rubbish and also haf no point if you didn't have online (which I had no idea how to do). I might pick up SF for the PSP at some time though as I've heard that was good (and I think I heard they are making a sequel to that).

2 disks?? Isn't that last generation?? Stop wasting plastic!! Anyway, I really don't see Halo 3 being 2 disks, unless it's for the special edition. If it is 2 disks, then developers are forced to use more than one medium to put their games on. Look at Blue Dragon, 3 disks...maybe they should have gone to a higher media format that has more space.

The Bungie guys are so cocky and ****ing annoying. "BEST TECH EVER" LMFAO what a joke comment.

I agree. I'm beginning to resent them. They're doing stupid things as a developer. If you wanna call yourselves technically advanced, make a game worth playing for more than 2 hours.

Now we have to crawl through 2 DISCS of the same corridors over and over?

You morons do realise that it's been confirmed the game isn't on 2 discs ?

Asuka, and you do realise it's called 'marketing' and more or less everyone does it.

Besides who honestly gives a shit that you have to spend 10 seconds swapping a disc.

Resident Evil 4 came on two discs on the Gamecube and thats one of the best action games ever. I haven't met a single person who has complained about having to swap the discs when they played RE4.

Anyone else actually kind of miss games on multiple discs? Maybe it's just a novelty thing, but it was always cool to be able to say "oh yeah, I'm on the second disc". There was always some semblence of how far through the game you were, and I guess you just felt like you were getting more for your buck...

Except for that one time I hired Metal Gear Solid and it wouldn't load the second disc properly, after like 3 tries. And the last save point on disc 1 is right before the Psycho Mantis battle. *shudder*

Anyway, probably more a nostalgia thing than anything.

If anything though, this is just a sign of the stupid expectations people are having of "next-gen" entertainment and the rapid advancement of technology. 2 discs? You gives a ****. When they start having to make regular games on 4 or 5 discs, then it's time to make the change to HD-DVD/Blu-ray. Save it till the Xcube 1080 when it's actually affordable.

Rhoemer was the arch-enemy in SF1, reappearing in the flashbackfull SF3. I seem to remember each game ended with that scary Russian woman laughing...

Yeah, I was thinking of the flamethrower guy for some reason.

He was the best. Mainly because, in multiplayer he would occasionally shout "stand steeel! Ah spastic you!"

Ah, MGS - another great game on two discs.

Final fantasy was good but the amount of discs was ridiculous. I still remember my expression when I saw that there was 4 discs on FF VIII.

Final fantasy was awesome but the amount of discs was awesome.
What he said.

Also, it's not as much of an issue for PC games as the only disc-swapping required is at installation.

One of the Metal Gear Solid ports for PC was on 7 discs. I lol'd.

You guys remember when they told us Oblivion was going to ship on four DVDs?

Yep. Syphon Filter was the shit. Those were the good old days.

I remember Monkey Island 2 coming on 11 disks - now that was hardcore disk swapping. Dragon's Lair came on a fair few too.

Some kids these days haven't lived! Oh no, 2 disks /o\

Halo 3 should come with a free xbox360 ..I'd pay $50 for that

meh, 2 dvds isnt all that bad ..a game like Mass Effect you'd expect to come on more than one disk but Halo3? I remember installing microsoft office late 80's I think it hasd something rediculous like 24 disks
