HALO 3 Trailer

Looks cool, I never have been a Halo fan though.

This made me look up Halo 3
Bill Gates, Microsoft's chairman, stated in a May 2005 Time Magazine interview that Halo 3 would be released as close to the PlayStation 3's launch as possible, to divert sales. "It's perfect," Gates said. "The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation],they walk right into Halo 3."

Looks pretty average to be honest, then again, I was never a Halo fan.

Bungie said it was all real time, which is very impressive. I hope they stick to the outdoors fighting elements that make Halo fun, and try to cut down on the repetitive corridor side of things.

well the tech was nice but the trailer was shit - i mean really shit

Meh.

The initial Halo 2 trailer sent chills down my spine. This one just left me with a feeling that I can wait to see more Halo 3 media. I'm more interested in seeing more stuff on tons of other games out there first.

And the most overrated franchise in the history of gaming continues...and that trailer was pretty meh. The music was rather lame.

Remember how meh halo 2 actually was? Maybe if they show a shitty trailer they will make a great game.

The Halo games have never been particularly good. While the tech was pretty impressive, this trailer didn't show any gameplay whatsoever ... so I'm going to assume it's still just another average shooter until proved otherwise.

Yeah. I'm merely commenting on the trailer itself. I don't expect too much out of Halo 3 but I really do hope it's more like Halo 1 and the ONE Earth level Halo 2 had.

Very nice.

I honestly hope Bungie learns from their mistakes on Halo 1 and 2...both games were pretty damned average. Halo 2 more so.

Halo 2 was nearer to average, but Halo 1 was a genuinely good shooter. **** it, it was getting on fantastic, despite some repetitive level design. Xen, anyone?

The thing I'm most pissed about is the Vista/Halo 2 debacle

Halo was great not for it's shooting, which was "good" but not "excellent", but for it's story - which was truly inspirational.

Halo 2 promised an even better story. What it delivered was... well... pretty shit. In their attempt to make the Covenant 'relatable', they simply contradicted the message they were initially presenting to the player (kill the bad guys). In Halo 2, there were no bad guys, only difference of opinion. Oh, and then it ended in a cliffhanger which suggested Bill Gates just *stopped* the development half way through and said "release it now".

Halo 3 is the conclusion. So, at least it will have an end. however, Bungie seem pretty proud of the pile-of-shite storyline which was tacked onto Halo 2, so I wouldn't be suprised if they simply expanded and continued it for Halo 3. Which would be bad.

Have any of you listened to the "I love bees" complete audio play? It's 6 hours in length, and it's one of my favorite Sci-Fi stories. The only part of it which even remotely relates to Halo is the referances to the Covenant, and Cortana. Apart from that, it's all about the relationships of a number of teenagers on Earth in the time leading up to Halo2. It's excellent. If they got the same people who made "I love Bees" to work on the script for Halo3, I'd feel in safe hands.

The thing I'm most pissed about is the Vista/Halo 2 debacle
Look up some of my posts, I clearly explain the reasoning behind their decision...

Downloading the trailer now via Xbox Live :) Can't wait to see it!!! Woot woot for Halo 3!

*Edit* From Bungie Site...

The trailer was built to have minimum impact on the development process, and while it required long hours and hard work from many, many Bungie staffers, it utilizes real-game assets, fiction and locations from parts of the "real" game.

There's no AI visible in the demo, no multiplayer, and the entire thing has been left deliberately subdued both to give scale to the artifact and because this is our announcement. The real stuff will come later.

Halo 1 had it's good moments but they were few and far between. It's story was pretty good in the way it was told, but it wasn't a bowl of mystery.

Me, loved it. It's pretty much impossible to compare Xen to three levels run backwards and the Library.

God damnit Bungie, they did it again, brought me in with their hype

They brought back the old assault rifle by the looks of what Chief was holding, the music was awesome, visuals were awesome, I can't wait to see full-working gameplay

At the end of the day I still have to upgrade and wait for Vista to come out, which seems silly for a game that's been out so long. But you're right... consider my annoyance directed at the situation, and not MS/Bungie.

It was devoid of anything remotely half-life! You had company throughout the Halo levels, no matter how repetitive they got... Xen stripped the humanity from halflife in one fell swoop, replacing the reality of black mesa with jumping puzzles and boss fights

Lack of gameplay footage ftmfl. Let's hope they realize that good games need something more than "30 seconds of fun repeated over and over again" (worst game design philosophy of all time btw) and "Dual-weilding lol". Learn from a good developer like Valve and put in physical interaction, non-combat sequences, and, most of all, varied gameplay.

Disagreed.

Xen was great because you got to see a completely alien world, one of pure imagination. The library levels in Halo, on the other hand, were the epitome of bad level design and deviod of any imagination. It was a perfect example of everything that is wrong with standard FPS games.

That trailer sucked. It was just a teaser, no gameplay at all. Don't they understand that no one wants to see that like ever? Sure it looks pretty, but it's not how the game looks.

So true.

lol, Xen was horrible. I'd rather play the Library level and that level is just as horrible :p

Xens atmosphere and art design made up for it's shortcomings gameplay wise.

Maybe if Xen was on the Source engine, I could see the atmosphere and art design.

But with what I have now, all I see is a fluff level.

You can't possible compare xen to running around the same corridor for 2 hours.

Ps. halo 1 on xbox with a mate co-op is great fun, otherwise Meh!

the musical score was lame. could be fun. halo was great.

The Halo series never recovered from the Library level. Everything was great up until that point, and then -BOOM- the Halo series is never the same again.

And because the single player elements were significantly lacking in quality for the sequel, I'm not really anticipating part 3.
